Sole Survivors ~ A Group Roleplay

This roleplay is a post-apocalyptic story set in and around New York City. (The characters don't have to be from NY that's just where the HQ/base and some safezones are is.) There are no zombies but there are vampires and other deadly creatures. It's set in the future like around 2150.

It's been about 10 years since the virus (The Sanguis Virus) broke out. It infected 99% of the human population (about 80 million people total left healthy around the world). Almost all of the people infected died within a few days but some didn't (They're called rogues). Those that were infected but didn't die turned into a vampire like creature. They crave healthy human blood but they aren't real vampires. They have also gone insane and are extremely dangerous. Most cities are abandoned and uninhabitable. There are a few safezones that are hidden around each country, one in the US being situated in NYC. The 1% that are left had a rare gene that kept them healthy. Every person left is immune to the virus but it did do something to some of them. Some people left that were exposed to it started developing a power. The powers ranged from many different things but they all had two things in common, the power wasn't too powerful and they only developed one.

Along with all the death arose another issue. Vampires started appearing almost out of thin air. The truth is that they had been hiding/disguising themselves as humans for a while now. Since the virus broke out, they revealed themselves and attacked. They gathered up as many humans as possible to use them as "livestock". Since they needed a fresh supply of blood that's what they resorted to. They have a bunch of fortresses underground and above ground all over the country. Now that the humans numbers are cut down they're trying to take over the world and make it their own. Some humans chose to join the vampires so that they could be guaranteed safety if the vampires succeeded. These humans are as evil as the vampires. They don't even care about their own kind and would turn their backs on humanity just for safety. They help the vampires by baiting humans and then capturing them.

Because of this issue the war began. Humans weren't going to go peacefully and they trained to take on the vampires. They taught kids all about their weaknesses and taught then how to defend themselves from a young age. Technology was developed that could help them destroy vampires. They make their weapons out of a special metal that prevents them from healing so that they can be taken down easier. Each resistant group has a different name but the one that will be focused on in NYC is known as the Black Star Company. They're known for the most vampires killed overall and they have some of the strongest members.
