Two weeks later.....I was searching in my drawer, back in my room as I looked for my new blue jeans. My mother had just recent washed them, and for some reason I thought she had put them back. However, as I kept looking for those very jeans, I must have been wrong.
I was back in my old room now, the one I shared with Cody. The bed my parents had ordered came in the very week I had been brought home, as I was just getting comfortable on the couch. However, the bed was much more comfy.
My mom suggested Polo sleep on the floor, perhaps in a dog bed, but I insisted he sleep on my bed. He had ever since I first got him as a puppy, and I assured her he would have no clue what a dog bed was. And she seemed alright with that.
I was sort of worried my family would be allergic to Polo, however, as the weeks had gone by, they had seemed quite content and fine with him, and so I was thrilled. My siblings adored him actually, mostly Kate and Mandy. They were thrilled there was a dog in the house. I wouldn't have known what to do or say if we had to get rid of him. I wouldn't have let them. He was all I had for those eight years. In some ways, I felt closer to him over my actual family. Only because he had been there with me for every part of that horrible, gut wrenching experience. He had seen it all, he had been through it all with me. And I couldn't let him go.
"Hey buddy, hurry up why don't you. We're gonna be late," Cody came swinging into our room, as he stuck his head into the open doorway.
"I'm going, I'm going," I tried to get him off my case as I just said screw it, and gave up on my blue jean search and grabbed my black jeans, and then threw on my jean jacket over my green long sleeve. It was my first day of school. First day at Pineview high school, where Cody went. Kate and Mandy were still in the middle school, which was across the field from our high school. I had to admit, I was a bit nervous starting up school again, since this was a new school, and plus I hadn't been to school for a few weeks. I wasn't too sure as to what to expect, coming from the teachers, but mostly the students. Hell, it seemed like everyone in the world knew about me by now, and with the recent updates and news about the horrors I had experienced throughout those eight years, it seemed like everyone knew me more.
The very next day after I told Chief Menlly about the abuse I had suffered at the hands of Martins, it seemed on every newspaper and news segment on TV was about what I had gone through. That news travelled fast, and I was not thrilled with that. It was bad enough the police and my family knew what finally happened to me, I didn't need everyone in the world to know too. It made me feel lousy that everyone knew. That was the very thing I was afraid of. The very reason I didn't want to tell anyone in the first place. But it was out now, and I just had to try and deal with it.
As I quickly grabbed my bag, and swung in over my shoulder I headed towards the bathroom real quickly. Trying to hurry up the pace, I brushed my teeth real quick as I also ran my fingers through my hair, messing it up a bit. My hair looked a lot better when it was roughed up looking, instead of my natural straight hair that would just fall flat. However, with that extra sort of volume that had grown throughout my hair over the years, that gave it the extra boost it needed.
Once I had finished both those things, I looked myself once over again, as I sort of felt like a different person than the one at the cabin, however, I didn't look different at all. With the clothes, the style and the hair, I was the exact same.
Mom had taken me out shopping the week I got back, since the only clothes I had were the ones on my back from the day I was found, and a few items of clothing that were Cody's. I couldn't be sharing his clothes the whole time, so mom thought it was a good idea to go get some of my own clothes. The whole time we were looking at rows and racks of clothes, she kept saying how that reminded her of the times we used to go shopping. I tried to fake a smile and say I thought so too, however, that was a lie.
