When dinner was over, the clattering of cutlery and rumble of jets filled our ears, panic set off in my mind, my heart rate accelerating. A sound of a distant bomb caused my blood to run cold. "Wh-what is happening?" I asked, my voice wavering, only just remembering that we were in the middle of a war.

"We have to get out of here before the bomb hits," Jacob said, and my mind automatically drifted to the damp, musty house this turns out to be in 2016.

"Oh, no. Jacob, what about dad?" I asked, thinking of what would happen if we were to die here and now. Our dad has no idea where we are.

"They don't know! They think we're going to die!" Olive called out like our panic was the best thing to happen all days.

"It's only the changeover." Millard tried to calm us down.

"May we go outside to show Jacob and Sophia?" Hugh asked with a buzz of bees.

"All right, so long as you all wear your masks." Miss Peregrine sighed, standing from the table. The others quickly got up to run for their masks, Hugh coming back with two spares and handing them to us.

We walked outside to see the jet's coming into view, Miss Peregrine playing a song while everyone danced around in the rain and the explosions that went of in the distance. The music was not making me feel any safer.

Run rabbit, run, rabbit, run, run, run!

At every bang, I jumped. I was holding onto the hope that the next one wouldn't be us. The only people not running around were Jacob, Emma, Enoch and I, who all stood still staring at the sky. My hand was instinctively shooting out to grab Jacobs.

Bang, bang, bang goes the farmer's gun!

I turned to see Olive and Clair giddy as they danced around each other, their arms splayed out to the sky as they welcomed the cool rain to help with the humidity the day had brought.

He'll get by without his rabbit pie, so...

The jets were flying above us now, the bottom of it opening up to let fall another explosive. This one was heading straight for us. My heart leaping from my chest as I watched and backed up, tripping over my feet in my haste and falling into Jacobs' arms as he pulled me up and held me straight, my eyes never leaving the bomb.
