*Niall's POV*
I sat in my room, strumming a mindless tune on my guitar, when I heard the doorbell ring.
"Mum! Can you get the door?" I was answered with a ringing silence. Sighing, I remembered she was out with a friend. I laid my guitar down on my unmade bed and jogged downstairs. Who would be at my door at this time? It was already 8:30 and the sun was almost gone. When I opened the door I broke into a grin.
Liam stood there, holding a single rose, and wearing a nervous smile.
"Hi, Liam," I greeted, gesturing quizzically at the rose.
"For you," he handed it to me.
I took it, chuckling. "It's beautiful, Li--"
"Read it," he pressed.
I found a small card tied to the stem.
"Niall, go on a date with me?-Anonymous"
I laughed at the 'Anonymous' reference and glanced back at him. He was nervously biting his lip, anticipating my answer. I rolled my eyes at his worries that I would say no."I'd love to, Liam," I threw my arms around his neck and pressed my lips to his. His face lit up and he grabbed my hand, leading me to his car. I broke into fits of laughter as he opened the passenger door for me.
"Why thank you, kind gentleman."
"My pleasure, fair lady," he responded cheekily.
I pouted as he started the car. "Why am I the girl?"
"Because I'm the one taking you out," he pecked my cheek. "Next date I'll be the girl."
I raised an eyebrow at him. "So we are role-playing now are we?"
"Oh, shut up."
I laughed and rolled down the window, allowing the night air to run through my hair and lick my cheeks. We drove in a happy silence, holding hands as we went through town. I noticed we had passed the high school, which lay on the outskirts of town, and turned to Liam.
"Where are you taking me exactly?"
"It's a surprise," he winked at me.
"That's so cliche," I teased, sticking my tongue out at him.
"Cliches are cliches for a reason. Now hush, we are almost there."
Soon enough he pulled up to the side of a lake. I jumped out as soon as he parked.
"Niall," he whined. "I was supposed to open the door for you."
Rolling my eyes, I retorted. "You've watched too many romance films, haven't you?"
"Maybe, but come on," he grabbed my hand and led me to the shore of the lake. A blanket was laid out on the ground, complete with little candles lit around it.
"So what do you think?" he asked.
"You know that is a fire hazard."
"You know how to kill a moment, don't you?"
"I'm kidding. It's perfect, Li. I promise."
He beamed down at me and kissed my forehead. Just a small show of affection like that sent sparks all over my body. "C'mon there's more," he muttered, pulling me down onto the blanket. He pulled out a box I hadn't noticed before and handed it to me. I opened it and gasped.
"How did you know these were my favorite?" I asked, holding up the bok of chocolate covered strawberries from my favorite sweet shop.
"I sorta enlisted Bekah to help me plan this all," he sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck.
