Scratch and Sky carried Russell’s limp body to camp. When they reached camp, the cats gasped and demanded to know what happened. Silver, the medicine cat, rushed out and ordered Scratch to go to her den immediately.

“Your wounds are not too bad, and I’m sorry to say that I can’t spare any more herbs. Keep the wounds clean, and wash them with soaked moss now. They should heal. I will briefly check on you everyday for signs of infection.” Silver told Sky briskly. Then she hurried back into her den.

Night stepped out from her temporary den in the nursery, and stared in shock in her father’s body.

“No!” She yowled. “StarClan, why? Why take Russell as well?” Night moaned in grief. She lied beside her father’s body for a short time, then she stood up and hissed, “Who did this?” Night’s eyes were full of fury and grief.

Sky stepped forward. “It was the rogue cats. There were two of them. One of them, Casper, who is the leader of other rogues killed him. Claws, the other one, seemed like his deputy. Scratched defeated him.”

“Tell me all about it later.” Night ordered Sky. Sky nodded. “Where’s Scratch?” She demanded. Scratch was her mate, and the father of her kits, Misty, Spots and Daisy.

“In the medicine cat den, Night.” Sky replied quietly. Night ran to the medicine cat den, and came out after a few moments. She leapt onto the Nightrock, a little less agile than before she gave birth.

“Cats that are old enough to catch their own prey, gather beneath the Nightrock for a Clan meeting!” Night yowled.

Cats started sitting down on the clearing, and Scratch peeked out from the medicine cat den.

“Rogue cats have been stealing prey from our territory.” She began angrily. “They killed Russell. Sky has more to tell you.”

Sky stepped forward, and told NightClan about what she heard and saw.

The Clan started yowling angrily and hissing when she was done. Night narrowed her eyes. “Very well. If they start coming to settle in our territory, we will force them to leave, first with words. If they ignore us, then we will fight for our territory.” The cats started to yowl in agreement.

“I have another thing to tell you. Last night, Silver spoke to StarClan in the Moonlake. She told me that StarClan wants me to have my nine lives and full name tonight, and that they want you to have your full warrior names tomorrow. I will travel with Silver to the Moonlake tonight.” Night announced.

The cats murmured in agreement. “While I am away, Midnight will be in charge. I want to have at least two strong cats to guard the camp when the others are sleeping. I will be back before dawn.” Night looked at the lifeless body of Russell. “I would like to mourn Russell after I get back from the Moonlake. Do not bury him yet. It’s sunset now. Eat something and practice battle moves. We need to get ready in case the rogues invade our territory.”

After sunset, Night stepped into the medicine den. "Let's go." She meowed, voice still ragged with mourning. Silver nodded. The two cats walked in silence into their territory, and gradually reached the clearing.

The Moonlake was calm and still, reflecting the bright moon and stars. It almost seemed to glow. The only sound was the chirping of crickets and the thin trail of water dripping into the sacred lake. "Now you have to lay down and lick some of the Moonwater. I will go to StarClan with you, and I will accompany you." Silver lied down next to Night, and they licked a few drops from the Moonlake and shut their eyes.
