Chapter 14: "This just got a whole lot more interesting!"
Sophie stared at Terren and Keefe sitting in the cart. The wind blew through her black hair. She still couldn't get used to the fact that she had black hair with blue streaks in it. She trudged up the hill and walked closer to the cart. Keefe and Terren looked like they were about to crack up. Sophie knew that could not be good. Whenever boys like those two had that evil grin and mischievous eyes, Sophie knew automatically something was going to happen. Something that she might not like. Sophie sighed and kept going. Finally, she reached the cart that held Keefe and Terren. She glared at them and said, "So... I am assuming my test has something to do with the cart and you two..."
Keefe grinned. "You bet it does, Mystie!"
Terren nodded. "We are here to help with the test.."
Sophie sighed. "What is the test?"
Terren and Keefe looked at each other and laughed. "This test is one that will test your physical abilities..." Keefe said in a dramatic voice.
"What type of physical abilities exactly?" she asked suspiciously. "Guys... please just tell me!"
"Oh... but Mystie, don't you think you already know what the test is going to have you do..." Keefe said in a whispery voice.
Sophie searched her mind for ideas of what test they could mean. Did they want her to push the cart through a series of obstacles? But as she looked at the course she realized that the obstacles weren't on the ground. They were in the air! Sophie gasped. "No way! Telekinesis?" she asked. "I have to use my telekinesis to maneuver the cart through the air with you guys in it, don't I?"
Keefe grinned. "Oh yeah! That is definitely what is happening!"
Sophie froze. "What do you mean?"
"We let the recruiters choose most of the time how they are going to do it. This course is designed to test many different abilities and so on.... but today you chose to be tested by your telekinesis," Keefe explained.
Sophie scanned the course again. Of course the Neverseen would do something like this. They were only interested in getting the right assets most of the time. So... this was definitely a worthy test for a recruit. It definitely was. Sophie looked back at Terren and Keefe. "I'm ready," she said as she tightened her hands into fists. "Are you sure you two are ok with this? I might drop you..."
"Myst... don't go there. Plus we know that you'll catch us. And we also know that you won't fail..." Terren said, trying to calm Sophie. He climbed in the cart with Keefe and said, "You will do great!"
Sophie closed her eyes and felt the power of her telekinesis within her. Now that she had trained more with her telekinesis, she could feel the power and was able to control it more than she could have in the past. She thought of what she wanted the power to do and focused on the cart as she opened her eyes. She pushed the energy toward the cart and lifted it up to the first obstacle. A hole in a sky bush. Sophie pushed the cart through and walked along the hill following the course. The next obstacle came into view. There were about 12 poles floating in the air. Sophie sighed. This would be a tricky thing to do. She thought of what she wanted the cart to do and used her hand to guide it. The cart moved through the poles. She had almost hit the cart on the last one. She gasped and quickly got to the third obstacle. The cart moved shakily in the air. Sophie started to panic a little. Her worries were starting to get to her. Finally, she got the cart through the winding tunnel in the air. Keefe and Terren were laughing and smiling and having the time of their lives. "I can't believe you guys are enjoying this!" Sophie yelled.
Keefe laughed. "Getting transported in the air is definitely one of the best things I have ever done!"
Sophie groaned and continued to push out the telekinetic energy out to move the cart. The final obstacle had arrived. Sophie gave a shout of hooray! This whole test had been getting on her nerves. The obstacle was a big block with flags stuck in it. "Mystie!" Keefe yelled. "In order to pass the test, you need to maneuver the cart around the block. Terren and I have to grab the flags."
Sophie nodded. "Lets do it!"
Sophie pushed the cart all around the block as Keefe and Terren grabbed all of the flags out of the block. "There are no more flags!" Terren yelled.
Keefe yelled "Hooray!" and jumped right out of the cart while it was still in the air. Sophie screamed and gently set the cart down on the ground. Keefe landed on the ground bouncing up and down. He laughed. "I loved the look on your face! You were so scared!" Keefe said.
Terren laughed as he came up behind them. "The ground is designed like a trampoline. A very durable one at that though. That is why Keefe bounced."
Sophie glared at Keefe. "You will never do that again, and you guys should've told me that the ground was a trampoline thing!"
Keefe laughed harder. "Please! I am so so sorry! I just love the bounciness!" He bounced up and down on the green, rubbery ground.
Sophie sighed and examined the area. She still couldn't believe that the ground was bouncy and that Keefe and Terren had not told that. She had been so worried about dropping them on the ground. Sophie walked further and noted that there were some buildings up ahead. "Guys, did I pass the test? And what is that?"
Keefe nodded. "Yes you did! You are, now, a member of the Neverseen! And that area over there is the base where recruits come after they pass the test. Fitz should be coming soon."
Sophie scanned the base again. This part of the Neverseen hideout was definitely well-built and established. It was a busy place for a Neverseen hideout. She walked toward and looked at the people and the clothing they wore. Almost all of them had the traditional Neverseen cloak. Sophie continued to walk as she reached the edge of the course. She could not believe that she was part of the Neverseen now. The Neverseen didn't even realize they had spies coming right into their midst. She gave a small, short laugh. They would never see it coming... Sophie stopped at one of the benches and sat down. Terren and Keefe caught up to her and sat down by her. Keefe smiled. "You know, Mystie, this just got a whole lot more interesting!"
"And why is that?" Sophie whispered.
"You are now a part of the Neverseen and you have the ability to wreak a whole lot of chaos!" Keefe whispered back.
Sophie stared at him. I know that, Keefe. My mind is already hard at work, she transmitted.
Sophie continued to look at their surroundings. The buildings were dark green and brown. They had stone walls and little tiny winows. Sophie cringed at the thought of being in one of those buildings. They all seemed expertly crafted though. The people seemed to be very quiet and secretive as well. The whole area just seemed very dark and gloomy in a way. Sophie's eyes met the eyes of a person, who wore a Neverseen cloak. But the eyes were familiar. Ones she knew. But she couldn't place who it was. Who was the person under the hooded cloak?
