"Urgh, I need to stop blacking out after seeing a pair of eyes. Really, Zoe, it's becoming a habit." That was the first thing I thought when I woke up. The second thing was that my head was pounding. It was as if my brains wanted to escape my head. As I got up from the stone floor I saw I was in some kind of dungeon, torches on the wall, stone floor, stone walls, bars... Wait, bars? I got locked up. That was when I heard Daniel say my name. He sounded broken.
"Daniel?" I asked. "Is that you? Where are you?"
"I'm in the cell next to you. Can you see me?" I looked over to my right and in the dim lighting of the torches I saw him sitting at the bars separating our cells. Quickly, I slided over there. I took hold of the bars. Daniel placed a hand on my cheek and caressed it.
"Are you alright?" He asked, worrying.
"Yes, except for a major headache." When I said that, his face turned angry.
"The bastards hit you on the head while I was trying to get us out, safely." His voice trembled of anger.
"Who are they? Why did they take us?" The feeling of his hand on my skin made me calm down. He took away his hand. And sat a little further from me.
"They are the vampires who hunt us. They want to punish us for taking away their power over the other races." As he said that, he looked away. "Now they will kill me and you..." He looked at me with pain in his eyes. Wait, we, the vampire hunters, are being hunted. By vampires. Okay...
"What are they going to do to me?" My voice trembled.
Daniel looked at me with fear in his eyes. "They will use you as a bloodwhore." That last word he said with disgust.
"What is a bloodwhore?" I asked. His answer was so silent that I barely heard it.
"You will be raped and your blood will be drawn out of you during your rapings. But they'll never let you die." Daniel was visibly hurting thinking about what they would do to me. I couldn't believe it. Was that my fate? No. I refuse to become a sexslave to these monster. I have to escape. Daniel and I must escape.
"No." Daniel looked up."We will get out of here, you hear me? I will not let them kill you. This is not our fate!" Daniel gave me a sad smile.
"Zoe, it's impossible. As much as I want to leave here and build a life with my mate, we can't escape. We're underground in a facility guarded by vampires. We'll never make it."
"We have to. Never give up Daniel. Please. I don't want us to end like this. We never got the chance to get to know one another." Suddenly, I couldn't bear the thought of losing Daniel. It must be the mate bond he talked about. Mate bond or not, I want Daniel, now and forever. "We can do this. I need you", I said, looking into his eyes.
Daniel looked at me. He seemed to search for something in my eyes. I saw determination flash in his. He grabbed my hand. "I will get you out of here. I promise you."
"Not just me Daniel, us. I want us to leave this place. I won't leave without you." I firmly held his hand and brought my face closer to his.
"If I could kiss you,"he said, "I would. But our first kiss will not be here. Listen, they will come in about an hour. They will bring us up to the council by elevator. That will be our only shot. When the elevator doors open I will take the guards out. You will run as fast as you can to the door. I will take care of all the guards, you have to open every door."
"How many doors will there be?" I asked him. He looked at me and said: "Seven. But each door will be more difficult to open. Especially the last one."
"What about it?"
"We will need the eye of a vampire." No vampire will ever open the door for us and using the eye of a dead vampire will be impossible because they turn to dust. That means that I... Oh god.
"I will have to cut the eye out of a living vampire." Daniel nodded, concern on his face. I turned away. The next hour went by in silence. I leaned against the bars, my hand in twined with Daniels. Suddenly we heard footsteps. I looked at Daniel. "Be ready", he said.
A total of four vampires came to get us. By the red color of their eyes I could tell they were young. I didn't know if that meant they were stronger or weaker. I was hoping it was the latter.
The first vampire opened the cells. "Get up and stay silent. If you try anything, you will be put to death instantly." He smiled when he said that last part. We were dragged out of our cells but we weren't getting cuffed. I didn't know if they were fools or if their strength was big enough that it would be useless. Daniel and I were place in between the vampires, two in front of us and two behind us. Daniel grabbed my hand. I looked up at him and gave him a nervous smile. He returned one. We reached the elevator. We were roughly pushed in there. As I saw the number indicating which floor we were on reaching 0, my heart started pounding even faster. I didn't dare to look at Daniel but I felt him tense up. The four vampires didn't have a clue what we were about to do.
Daniel released his hold of my hand. The elevator stopped. After the 'ping' that indicated our arrival, all hell broke loose.
So, quite a cliffhanger huh? I don't know when the next chapter will be ready, but feel free to encourage me hahaha.
