The pain in my head woke me up. For a second I didn't remember a thing. But then it all came back. The hooded man, the daggers... and my savier. My eyes flew open. I had a savier. But all I knew of him was that he had beautiful light blue eyes. I looked around. The room I was in was warm, with lots of brown colors. The bed I had slept in was soft, the bedding was a deep red. 'This must be his bedroom,' I thought. I heard footsteps behind the door. Quickly, I closed my eyes. The door opened. A strong and sexy voice said:
'I know you're awake. Stop pretending so that I can give you something for the pain in your head.' Wow, that man was... wow. I sat up and looked at him. To say he was hot was an understatement. He was muscular, but not over the top. His hair was brown and quite long, he had strong cheekbones and a straight nose. And his eyes, oh his eyes. Now that I wasn't overtaken with fear I saw his eyes were not light blue but more a grey blue. I didn't realise I was staring until he awkwardly coughed. I quickly looked away. He came near and I smelled his scent. He smelled like... a man. I couldn't place it. But is was a compelling scent. He sat down at the end of the bed and handed me a cup of tea.
'It's for your head. You hit the ground pretty hard.' I looked up to him and saw a little smile. It was gone quickly. I took the cup and smelled it. It smelled awful, like puke. 'Th-thanks, I guess,' I replied. I took a sip. God, it was gross. He saw my face when I drank from it and smiled, an actual smile. He was even cuter when he smiled. I drank the cup as fast as I could. The I looked at the stranger who saved me. He looked back with a weird llok on his face. As if he saw something in me. I felt like something from deep inside me pulled myself to him. I resisted the urge to crawl on his lap.
'Who are you? Why did you save me?' Those were only a few of the questions I wanted to ask him, but I started with those.
'My name is Daniel Dalca. I saved you because you are my mate.' His what? Okay, the guy may be hot but he needs to go talk to a shrink or something.
'Alright, I don't know how far you have gone mental, Daniel, but I am going to leave now.' Daniel looked upset. Then I saw understanding on his face.
'You don't know,' he said, 'you never knew.'
'I never knew what?' I was getting confused here.
'Have you never wondered why you are more beautiful than human. Why you are stronger, faster, especially at night and during a full moon?' Now I actually did. But I never thought more of it. Daniel looked at me and said:
'You have all those qualities because you are a hunter of darkness. A child born with the blood of a werewolf and a vampire.' Yes, the dude is mental. I had to leave before he did something to me.
'I would never hurt you, Zoe.' What?
'How do you know my name? How did you know what I was thinking?' The guy was freaking me out.
'As I said, you are my mate.' Daniel looked like he believed what he was saying and part of me wanted to believe him too.
'If you give me a chance, I will explain it all to you. But you have to promise to be open to what I'm going to tell you.' I knew if I tried to run he would catch me before I left the room, I could feel it. So if I wanted to leave here I would have to hear him out.
'Okay,' I said, 'start talking.' I crossed my arms as Daniel started speaking.
'Ages ago, the vampire race dominated the Earth. Both humans and werewolves were enslaved by them. Every land had its own Council of the strongest vampires of that land. They decided everything. The werewolves worked as slaves and humans were their food. The High Council was were the original vampires were seated. They enjoyed their power over the humans and werewolves. But one of the original vampires, Dumitru, was enraged by the way his people behaved. He wanted a balance between the races. So he went to the leader of the werewolves and explained his plan to create a new race; one with the qualties of men, werewolf and vampire. With the help of a witch, their blood was mixed and the new race was born. When they were strong enough, they brought down the cities of vampires and forced them to hide. After securing the safety of all races, they too dissapeared out of sight. Now that race, the hunters of darkness, are still active to maintain the balance of races. I am a hunter. Just like you.' Daniel said this with a look of believe on his face.
'That doesn't explain why you called me your ''mate''.' That is something that really bothered me.
Daniel explained: 'Both werewolves and vampires have soulmates, or mates. Mates are two people who were meant to be together to produce the strongest offspring. The two mates have a sexual tension they both feel. We belong together, Zoe. You and I were meant for each other. You can't deny the tension between us.' That part he said with a grin. God he was sexy, but I wasn't going to say that. This still sounded crazy to my ears.
'So what you are saying is that because we are this weird offspring of wer wolves and vampires we have to kill werewolves and vampires and we only get one partner and that partner is to be recognized by the feeling to have sex?' Daniel smiled again.
'That is a simple version, but yes.' I couldn't believe this. I was about to say something when the door to the room we were in exploded. In one breath Daniel went from sitting on the bed smiling to standing infront of me with his sword in his hand.
A man walked in the room. His eyes were red. He was slender and handsome but he looked old, like centuries old. When he spoke, I heard a Romanian accent. I could feel he was a vampire.
'Well well Daniel. I see you have found your mate. Too bad we have to kill you before you can make the bond.' The man looked at me with his red eyes and smiled. Then more vampires entered the room. The last thing I saw were red eyes when the darkness fell upon me again.
