A/N - At first I was undecided on whether or not I should post this story because at first it seemed kind of lacking something but please even if it is bad at the start, it will get better I promise!!!
Also it would be extremely helpful to me if you could vote and comment on my work as it is always helpful to a writer to get any advice on how to improve their book! just remember that this book is unedited so there will be some spelling mistakes throughout my work but don't worry I will try and edit it as much as possible!!!
other than that enjoy....
CHAPTER ONE - FLASHBACK
Preface:
I walked up the steps to the tall building, my feet slowly slipping on the concrete. The air was cold and damp against my skin. The sun was out but completely hidden behind a blanket of clouds which I'm not really used to. Where we used to live it was sunny almost every day! My feet came to a stop and my eyes trailed up to find a dark shadow of a door staring into my scared eyes. It was tall with brown planks of wood. Much different to the doors back home, but then again everything is different here!
I could feel my parents eyes boring into my back as I stood there motionless. I decided enough was enough and with a deep breath forced my sweaty hand to clasp around the handle and pushed open the door. It answered with a soft groan and I stepped inside. The outside seemed worn and dated but the inside was completely the opposite! The walls were painted in a soft creamy colour and oak coloured wood lined the floor. Despite the strange feeling to it the inside was strangely homely and welcoming.
I could hear voices in the background but they were muffled and hard to pick out. I put down my suitcase and crossed the floor to the window. It was large enough to see the whole street. I scanned the road for a black Audi but to my disappointment all I could find was an old Chevy. That means that my parents must have already left. I suddenly felt relief but also a sadness I couldn't quite understand.
My parents had told me that they were going away for a couple of weeks and so they had left me here in New York with someone named Maria. I haven't really met her before but I think she was a friend of my moms. I didn't know when they were going to be back because my dad said that some work trips are unpredictable. That meant that I would have to make new friends here at a new school - not that I had any anyway.
I tried to argue with my parents because I truly didn't want to be here but they didn't listen to me. I don't get why I couldn't have stayed home.
"You need someone to look after you, someone to protect you" they told me. When I tried to speak they just repeated themselves until I finally gave up. One question still haunted me, what would I need protecting from?......
