I Better Never Run Into Him Again

I walk across the street to the super small cafe.  When you put twenty people inside it looks packed! It's set up with little booths like in old diners, and has two tables with super high chairs. The booths are red, and the tables are white, same with the smaller tables. The pastry bar has rows and rows of pastries, right when you walk in they line the front part of the store. The display is filled with any donut you can imagine!  It also includes croissants, muffins, and cupcakes. They have pretty much anything you would want. Not to mention the coffee is amazing! If I moved out of New York, I would walk through towns to get this coffee. No I would buy plane tickets every week to come get the coffee here!

I come to the cafe and swung the door open. I've been here so many times, I know just about every employee here! There's Jennifer who works at the pastry bar, Ryan behind the counter, and Josie making the coffee today. Sometimes Jackson is behind the counter, other times Britany works the pastries, but Josie is the main coffee girl. When Josie gets sick the whole cafe is a mad house, no one makes coffee like her! I also know pretty much all the customers, well all the regulars. The good thing about this spot is none of the tourist know about it, so no one really stands in line and stares at the menu for ten years. As I walk through the door, I'm greeted with all the hellos.

"Hi Maddie!" Ron says sipping his coffee. "I didn't see you yesterday? Running late?"

" Vanessa got it yesterday, she ran a little bit late. You know Vanessa always messing with her outfit."

"That sounds like her! Tell Vanessa I say 'Hi'!" Ron says push the door open and waving back to me. I wave back and turn around towards the order line.

Wow lots of people here today! I pull out my phone and wait and wait some more. Good thing Vanessa woke me up early! I go to messages and text Vanessa, "Hey line is super long gonna take a while!" It only took ten seconds for her to respond "Glad it's not me!" I laugh and put my phone back in my pocket. When someone taps me on the shoulder, I turn around to see Jamie.

"Jamie! How was your trip to California?" I've never been to Cali I really want to go, but not with the tight budget I'm on now. Someday I'll become a doctor in Cali, it just takes time.

"Amazing the weather is hot there. It was in the eighties!" Jamie fanned her face.

"That's so cool! See an hot surfer dudes?"

"Yes so many! Oh it was amazing, you and Vanessa would love it there." Jamie turned around the sound of her Jennifer calling her name, "Oh got to go! Bye Maddie!"

I waved and pulled out my phone, this took twenty minutes!

"Maddie!" Jennifer says behind the pastry part of the counter, waving me over. "Is today the first day?"

"Sure is!" I say showing her my name tag, as I scan through the pastries. I already know what I want though.

"I'm so proud of you!" She says opening the pastry cabinet. 'Let me guess a chocolate croissant for you, and a chocolate muffin for Vanessa?"

"You got it." I say grabbing the pastries. I head for the check out counter, and Ryan greets me.

"Maddie? I thought it was Vanessa's day?" Ryan said typing in my order.

"Nope she got it the last two times, since I of course was running late." I say pulling out my wallet.

"Sounds normal. Iced coffee for Vanessa, and a latte for you?"

"You got it down pat!" I say handing him a twenty.

"See you later Maddie, and good luck at your new office. Oh, and tell Vanessa I say hi!"
