Everything was silent and dark. I kept my gaze locked with the road in front of me and keep driving without giving a glance to the body sitting behind me.

My mind was conflicting how was I going to take care of her. I was eighteen and there I was stuck with a little girl of half of my age. A frustrated groan left my lips as I rubbed my face with !y left hand.

I stopped the car in front of my apartment and put my head on the steering wheel and took a last long breathe.

I open the passenger door as my hands lingered on the lock for a little longer. When I opened the door I found Lilly sleeps in fetal position into the farthest corner of the seat.

"Princess?"

"Are you awake?"

My voice was so low that I couldn't remember myself able to speak in this low voice earlier. When she didn't respond my heartbeat increased for a mere second.

Is she dead?

That was the first thought came rushing into my mind as I touched her bare knee with one hand and shake her vigorously.

"Dammit, she's buring"

Her whole body was in high temperature, like she was herself a burning coal with sweat drops stucked on her forehead.

I scooped her with my both hand, locking the door with kick I hurriedly got into my apartment.

"Lilly wake up".

"Wake up Princess"

I kept murmuring in her ears but she didn't respond for once. I placed her on my bed which was too large to her short stature but I didn't have any other choices. I rushed in the kitchen and took some ice water with an extra cotton cloth and a thermometer.I came back in my room. My hands were shaking violently, I kneeled infront oh her and checked her breathe and put the thermometer in her axilla.

Squeezing the cotton cloth on the ice water I placed the cloth on her forehead. She creates some whimpering sounds which somehow brought calmness on my erratic nerves.

"Princess ? Can you please open your eyes for me?" I asked, I didn't know any better thing to ask her at that moment.
She coughed for few times then squeezed my hand letting me know that she can hear me clearly.

That's when I realised that I was holding her little hand with mine. My inner voice was cursing me that everything had done because of me. Martin was responsible for her condition as much as I was. I didn't even know for how much time I could save her after taking everything away in first place.

"Water" she said in a raspy voice. I grab the glass from the table and helped her to sit upright, helping her to drink water.

" Take this medicine, you have high fever." I said and she turned her head to me and looked at the medicine. Every minute with her was passing slowly.

Very slowly.

It was feeling suffocating to be with her, looking at her.

She was a reminder of my sins.

She kept looking at the medicine and my patience was slipping away.

"Eat" I said in a harsh tone, she startled and her eyes became wide. I felt bad but I couldn't show her that, no one should know about any of my weakness. The full horror look on her face was enough to express what she exactly she was thinking about me.

Killer.

Of her.

Of her family.

I closed my eyes frustratingly and sat on the floor, resting both of my hands on knees.

" You have very high fever Princess and I'm sure you know that it means you're I'll and this is not the time for that. I have enough of my shit on my platter and honestly I don't want any of your now. So, like a good girl you have to take your medicine then we can discuss what we're going to do next."

I didn't looked at her all this time when I said that but I could feel her gaze buring hole on my skull. I brought my left palm in front of her as she looked from the medicine to my face one last time and eat the medicine.

When I looked back at her she was looking out of the front balcony. My eyes landed on her features which were glistening due to moon light. Her eyes were red, expressing the loss she had faced that night. Her lips were pink and her cheeks were swollen. Her face was full of agony and I swore if I could take all of her pain away I would have done it in a second.

But I couldn't.

I would never be.

Though I had saved her but it's all for my selfishness, to find a piece of hope that I had done what I was capable of but little do I know I could do more.

" Will you kill me?"

My trance of thoughts became stopped as her question shook the world beneath my feet.

She really thought I was a killer?

Yes.

"No"

I said, I thought she didn't hear me clearly but her next words were those which I never knew would forever haunt me for my entire life.

"Thank you, I saw you were trying to save my family but.." her voice chocked, my fists clenched. I never interrupted as she again continued...

"But those bad people were hurting them again and again and I couldn't do anything. I saw you-"

" I think you should get some sleep. If you need anything I'm in the next room."

With that I stormed out of my room, leaving her behind me.

I clenched my hair in my fist as my head hurt badly, all the memories of my life's horrible birthday came crushing down on my mind. The pain tore through me like a sharp edge cutting glass, cutting my flesh mercilessly.

Her last words were echoing on my mind again and again..

Thank you

Thank you

Thank you.

"Fuck"

" I'm a fucking monster."

" I'll always be a fucking monster."

With that I took a sleeping pill, gulping it without water, I face fell on my guest's room bed and everything became black.
