Jack was overwhelmed by a lot of things.
First, The last house he wanted to be in was Slytherin. But while he was there- he might as well prove he isn't evil.
Second, how many classes were here! It looked like he was going be up all night every night with homework.
Third, the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.
Her name was Professor Umbridge.
She looked like a toad; Umbridge had short curly brown hair and catty blue eyes. She wore a cardigan that was such a shade of pink it made Jack want to puke.
Not only that, but she interrupted Dumbledore in his speech. NO ONE INTERRUPTS HIM. NO ONE.
None of the teacher's looked like they necessarily liked her, either.
He was snapped out of his reverie by his House standing up to go to the common room. They jostled along and Jack found himself by a by with white blonde hair slicked back, a rat-like face, and blue eyes. He was flanked by large, beefy, and stupid looking students.
The boy looked at Jack haughtily and walked ahead.
"Serpensortia." He sneered at the picture and Jack saw the prefect badge on the boy. A bad feeling settled in his stomach abut him.
The common room had several comfortable and several uncomfortable armchairs and one large couch. They were all green with some silver adornments. The fire roared but it provided no warmth in the chilly silence of the common room. Everyone filed in and began to talk to their friends. Jack was left standing alone until a blonde girl walked up to him.
She had spikey blonde hair and a black headband. Her eyes were turquoise and skin was slightly sun kissed.
"My names Astrid." She held out her hand and Jack shook it, smiling.
"I'm Jack Frost. Nice to meet you."
"Interesting name."
"Yours too."
"Okay. Every ken goes to bed. Now." The boy with the slick white blonde hair and prefect badge ordered.
There were murmurs of outrage and surprise from the first years and half the second years. The rest just rolled their eyes at him and walked up to the dormitories. most of the second years and a couple first years followed.
"Why should we?" Jack walked up to the boy and narrowed his malicious eyes at him.
"I'm a fifth year, and a prefect. Everyone here does what the prefects say, boy." He said snidely.
Jack raised his eyebrows.
"Really? I thought they didn't choose rats as prefects, just students. I guess I was wrong though." A few people chuckled. The boys cheeks heated up.
"Who are you, anyway?"
"Jack. Jack Frost. More of a man than you'll ever be and I'm only 11 years old."
The boy turned to the thugs at his side.
". Goyle, take care of our little ... problem. Everyone else get to the dorms." No one moved.
"I said, MOVE! Crabbe, get them up." Soon the only 3 people left in the common room were the boys the guy names Goyle, and Jack. He thought he saw a flash of blonde hair behind an armchair but dismissed it.
The boy smiled like a snake and headed up the stairs.
Goyle pounded his fist against his hand and Jack took a step back. He was prepared for the punch but before it could happen something had leapt up on Goyles back and gripped his cheeks, leaving red crescent shaped marks.
Jack blinked a moment and kicked him in the stomach.
Goyle stumbled back. the thing launched itself off his back, slugging him in the face. Goyle glared and groped for the thing but jack jammed his fist in his eye, leaving Goyle partially blind. He roared but froze as footsteps and questions started from the direction of the dorms. He narrowed his eyes and stalked back up the stairs.
The thing was actually a who, and the who was Astrid. She turned to jack.
"Nice job, humiliating that guy." She grinned.
"Thanks. For saving my life." Jack laughed.
"Oh, I doubt he would have killed you. But I bet we are in deep, deep trouble now." Astrid smiled crookedly.
"Sounds like fun." They shook hands with lopsided grins and parted ways to their dormitories.
