Note: I'm so sorry for the lack of updates, it's been busy:/ here' a long chapter to make up for it, I hope you enjoy, thanks for reading!
It was Friday morning when Jungkook heard a knock at his front door. He was seated at his kitchen table before a steaming cup of coffee, wondering what he was going to do on his second day off of work. Yesterday he spent the day in town, running meaningless errands. He still had no idea why the Captain put him on relief, especially since he just started work that week.
Jungkook grumbles, still recovering from waking up. He was definitely not a morning person--given the time to sleep. He opens the door to be greeted by nothing but a gust of wind and the slowly brightening sky above. The young guard rolls his eyes; damn kids, ding dong ditching this early in the morning. He shakes his head, but before he closes the door, he notices a slip of paper resting on the ground in front of his feet. Jungkook kneels down to see that it's an envelope with very delicate handwriting across the slip. It surely wasn't a mistake, his name bold and tenderly written at large on the white paper.
The young guard glances around at his neighbors and squints to see if anyone is in the alley's farther away. Nothing.
Jungkook takes the letter, shuts the door, and heads back to his table to read what's inside.
He peels away the closed envelope and slides a piece of paper out.
The same beautiful handwriting covers the paper, and Jungkook reads every word carefully, not wanting to miss any of it;s meaning. He has to read it again, making sure that what he saw was real.
Jeon Jungkook ...
You are invited to Prince Kim Taehyung's birthday celebration this Friday at eight o'clock. Dress to impress. Wear your best suit. No additional gifts are required.
And near the very bottom of the paper, in a smaller print than the rest of the note, he reads with too many butterflies forming in his stomach:
I hope to see you there..
He didn't have to think twice before knowing that this letter was from the Prince himself. He wants to throw it away immediately, hating how no matter how hard he tries to deny his feelings and avoid the Prince, somehow, someway, they always find their way back into his system.
I belong in his story.
Jungkook suddenly feels his pulse begin to race. Taehyung really took his time to send him a personal invitation to his party... as a guest, not his guard.
He feels faint.
So many things could go wrong...
The Prince was meeting his future wife tonight, so what would be the point of him even going? What was Taehyung even thinking would happen?
Even if he did go, Jungkook wouldn't know anyone. Surely none, if not some, of the townsfolk are going, who are the majority of people Jungkook associates himself with. He'll see Hoseok there, and other guards, but what would they think of him if he showed up in a suit and tie, and not his uniform?
No, you're not going. You shouldn't go.
So why was it that at six o'clock he found himself in the shower, washing his hair and body over and over to make sure he looked and smelled good? What was it that got him in his only dress suit--one he hadn't worn since his dad's funeral--? What was it that got him scanning his clean cut image in the mirror for longer than necessary, fixing every loose strand of hair he could find?
