Chapter 7: Forget and Ignore

As the night had went on, Jungkook slowly saw a different side of the Prince, a side that didn't make him think he was a Prince at all. He was able to see the real Taehyung, someone who he found to be more genuine than he originally thought. The Prince was confident, but the arrogance he once saw has completely faded. Jungkook can only admire the strong presence Taehyung feeds his peers, since he now knows what his life is really like behind the palace doors...

It was around eleven o'clock when Jungkook suggested that it was a safe time to leave. Even though he'd much rather stay out here and talk to Taehyung (more so than he wanted to admit), he knew he had to get him back before someone noticed they were missing.

Taehyung gives him a pout as Jungkook stands up to leave. "I don't wanna go back," he complains, his tone is thick and serious.

"If we're out any later someone will notice that we're gone," Jungkook says, reaching out his hand to help the Prince stand up. He takes it reluctantly and sighs. "C'mon, Taehyung," Jungkook leads him out of the cave, casually letting go of his hand, and quickly missing the soft feel of his skin on his.

Taehyung takes one last glance at the view, cherishing the peace and comfort it gave him. "I'm gonna come back here sometime," he says as they exit the cave and head on their way back through the trees.

"I'm glad it left a good impression on you," Jungkook says, swatting away tree branches in front of him.

The silence of the night swallows them up as they make their way out of the forest and back onto the stoned perimeter of the village.

They're quiet, but the tension between the two has vanished. They both walk as if in denial that the past couple of hours even happened. Jungkook knows more about the Prince than anyone else now. They poured their emotions out in such a casual and free manner that it's hard to believe it was only Jungkook's second day at work.

Work. The idea of it reminds Jungkook that he is still in his uniform, and his job is still to be the Prince's guard. Not his friend, but his loyal protector.

As they briskly walk around town, Jungkook begins to feel conflicted with the whole situation. He wasn't supposed to be having conversations with the Prince. He was supposed to be standing outside his door, keeping him from leaving.

He knows that everything they just did would have him fired straight away. Jungkook was conflicted, but he can't seem to understand why he also doesn't really care? He really did enjoy talking with the Prince, and it's hard for him to admit that such a harmless act could send him back to the bakery within the next hour.

Taehyung knew that making Jungkook sneak him out of the castle was a risky idea. He knew that if they got caught Jungkook would get fired and Taehyung would lose any hope of freedom. He knew that the idea of ever having a chance at a genuine relationship with him was only a wish.

But the Prince also knew that when he put his trust in the young guard, he wouldn't regret it. He knew right when he first saw his innocent eyes that he was someone worth getting to know.

Taehyung rarely wanted to invest time into really knowing someone. Everyone in his life consist of arrogance, vanity, and a lust for power. Everyone was the same inside, but not Jungkook. The Prince is still trying to piece the boy together, but it was a puzzle he was willing to finish. He still doesn't know why, but he just needs to know him.

They cross under the bridge, walk up the stairs to the door that leads to the station and go inside.

Jungkook stops. "Okay, I'm gonna meet you back at your room. You take the same way we came out, and I'll keep an eye out as I make my way to your room the other way."
