"Maybe it was for the better, you know.. calling it off with him," Jimin comforts Taehyung, running his small delicate fingers through Taehyung's fading red hair. Taehyung had his head on Jimin's lap. It was routine for the two— whenever they had to talk about important topics or even just rant, the one to talk always laid on the other's lap and the other would simply listen and react. Tonight, it was Jimin who had to listen to Taehyung tell his story— the story of him and Jungkook that he's kept to himself for the past three years.

It was a typical high school love story, Taehyung met Jungkook on his second year. Despite being younger, Jungkook was advanced a level higher than the one he should've been in. He was intelligent to his advantage, so it was his first year at the same time it was Taehyung's second. They met in their P.E. class, to be precise. Jungkook was extremely athletic, he completed his level course for physical education in the first semester so they allowed him to take the next level in the second semester.

In a game of basketball, which Taehyung terribly sucked at— he accidentally gave Jungkook a bleeding nose defending the ball. Taehyung apologized to the younger so many times, he told him he'd make it up to him for almost breaking his nose. It started with Taehyung sitting with Jungkook every lunch break when he found out Jungkook didn't have any close friends yet. Jungkook and Taehyung simply had one another, and they were content with that. They became very close friends within a year and eventually, they also gained more friends. Taehyung became close to Jimin when they were put in most of the same classes in their third year, Jungkook met Yoongi when he decided to join the basketball team. Along with the growth of their social relationships with others, feelings also grew between Taehyung and Jungkook. In fact, they started to date in the beginning of Taehyung's third year. Though, Jungkook hasn't fully accepted himself yet. All he knew was that he was in love with Taehyung and that he wanted nothing more than to be with him.

But what came with that was his decision to keep their relationship a secret, which Taehyung understood and agreed to. They were happy with each other, but as time passed, Taehyung felt that Jungkook was somehow drifting away from him. After school they would usually be stuck with each other until it was time for them to go home and sleep, but that changed. Jungkook rejected Taehyung's invites to come over or hang out, Jungkook wouldn't show up to their dates anymore, and if he did, he was always hours late. Maybe it was because Jungkook found more friends other than Yoongi, maybe it was because he chose to spend time with them over Taehyung. Taehyung chose to understand that maybe he was suffocating his boyfriend a little too much, that he wanted to be with other people than Taehyung too, so he respected that.

When Taehyung got tired of always having to understand and wait for Jungkook, one night he called the other to meet up and talk. Even that, Jungkook refused to come to as well. He said, if Jungkook doesn't show up then it would be over for the two of them. Jungkook simply responded with an 'okay' so Taehyung took it as a yes, he would come. Taehyung waited at their favourite spot in the park a few blocks away from their school. He sat under the cherry blossom tree in which they carved their initials into. He waited and waited and waited, he even fell asleep and woke up at around two in the morning. But he didn't lose hope. He knew Jungkook loved him, he believed he would come. No matter how long he had to wait, Jungkook would for sure come. But he didn't. Taehyung stayed there until the next morning, until he had to leave and go to school. He was disappointed, but maybe Jungkook had an emergency. Jungkook said he would come, right? He wouldn't have lied. However, on that day and the next three days, there was no sign of Jungkook.
