(Y/n) POV
My eyes begin to flutter open upon hearing the morning birds sing awake the site. Their chirping is soothing, but the arm slung over me was all that I needed to be at my most relaxed. I peer over at the sleeping form of Max, feeling the edges of my lips etch upwards as I begin to play with his black curls.
"Good morning Maxi," I mutter kissing his cheek. The boy begins to stir groggily, causing a small giggle to escape from my lips. One of Max's eyes finally pops open, returning my small smile with a tired one of his own.
"Morning bugaboo" the boy softly mumbles, offering a gentle morning peck on my cheek. The small gesture is still enough to get me blushing.
Soon after, both Max and I are out exiting the tent. While Max had changed his outfit into a bland, grey hoodie, I had yet to change out of my clothes from yesterday. We curiously stop by Mess hall, peering inside to catch David ominously walking back and forth muttering things under his breath. Surprisingly, aside from David presence, the inside of the building was void of any other campers or counselors.
"Ah, what's going on?" Max asks the redheaded counselor. David finally takes note of us, offering us a small glance before continuing his rounds across the building floor.
"I'm trying to figure out what to do next with the campers" the man grumbles. This was the closest I've ever seen David to being serious!
"Why don't we check out Spooky Island?" Max blurts out. I turn to him confused.
"What's Spooky Island?" I ask him with a raised brow. A small, and devious smile crawls upon his lips.
"Well, you see, Spooky Island is known for being one of the scarier sites around the camp. You can see actual dead people and other scary items there" Max explains with a smirk. David nods his head in confirmation, but a small part of him seemed hesitant with the idea.
"Are we hiking today?", David asks Max. The boy wordlessly nods, allowing stars to finally appear in the older man's eyes.
"Than that sounds like a fantastic idea! Let me wake up the other campers and we'll be on our way!" the bubbly counselor announces before making a swift leave out of the building. I turn back towards Max with a still confused and perplexed expression.
"So what do you mean by seeing dead people?"
"Well, there is a childhood friend from David's days here. He's currently living at Spooky Island" Max shrugs. Now it was your turn for stars to sparkle in your eyes.
"Wow that's cool"
"Somewhat cool", the boy nods, "But definitely not as cool as the laboratory with weird animals" Max smirks. You were beginning to realize how much you underestimated this camp after all. Who knew such exciting things even existed at such a poor excuse of a campsite.
"Wow I want to see some of this stuff for myself!" you exclaim with even more excitement. Max chuckles.
"When we get there, bugaboo."
