The gates to the Annex opened seconds before we got to them and closed back up again seconds after we had passed through the threshold. The people of the compound were all standing outside, eyes wide and visibly shaking with fear. As soon as Rone put the jeep in park, we all jumped out of the vehicle as Oz ran over. "Hey." he greeted us quickly before cutting to the chase. "I had extra ammo brought up to the rooftops. Libyan guards are positioned in the towers."
Glancing over to my left, I spotted the vehicle that Scott and the others had driven off in back at the villa. Even though the presence of the vehicle meant that they had made it back, the appearance of the blown tires, bullet holes, and flaming engine struck something inside of me. I wasn't quite sure what it was, but it twisted my stomach up in a sickening way.
Shaking the feeling off, I turned and followed the other guys inside to grab a quick drink of water and reload my weapons. When I had cooled off I little, I poked my head outside to ask Rone what the plan was, but instead I found myself in the middle of another conversation between him and the chief.
Waking over to the jeep, Bob peered inside and swallowed hard when he saw Sean's body in the trunk. "Who's gonna bring him inside?"
"He stays right here, Chief." Rone answered. "When we exfil out, it's gonna be quick."
Bob turned away from the vehicle. "What about the Ambassador?"
Rone was silent for a moment before shaking his head. "No one could survive that. Right now, we need men on the roof."
"I want to make a run for the airport." Bob blurted out as if the idea had just slipped from the tip of his tongue.
Rone scoffed as he gestured in the direction of the compound we had just returned from. "Maybe you haven't noticed it's open season on Americans in Benghazi right now."
After the small dispute had ended, I watched as Rone went inside to inform the others what to do before heading into the infirmary where Scott was waiting for him. Deciding that he may need some help, I walked in right as Jack was opening the fridge to grab a bottle of water. "No gunship?" he huffed before gulping down the rest of the water; his eyes drifting to the clock on the wall. "Six hours till dawn. Entire city knows where we're holed up."
"Seven of us versus what feels like half of the goddamn country." I winced slightly as I accidentally moved my shoulder a little too quickly.
Rone, like always, looked to us without a hint of fear or doubt in his eyes. "When they come, we're gonna unleash hate on these guys."
As I exited the infirmary to head back outside with the other guys, I passed by Amahl who was sitting in front of one of the fans, his head drenched from the water he had just poured on it, and the two CIA agents that we had accompanied during my first mission all those weeks ago sitting by his side. "Amahl, can I get my gun?" Tanto waked into the room. "Sorry, buddy, I think I'm gonna need it."
"Shit." Amahl cursed as he handed over the pistol.
The male CIA agent turned to Tanto. "What's the situation out there?"
Tanto shrugged as he headed for the door. "Grab a gun, meet me on the roof. I'll tell you all about it."
The man's eyes grew as wide as dinner plates. "He isn't serious, is he? 'Cause that's his job, that's not my job."
"He is serious." Amahl nodded.
I flashed a small smirk. "Dead serious."
Hearing a bang on the window, we looked over to see Tanto waving for the man to follow him. "Come on up! Check it out!"
