A/N: First of all, THANKS SO MUCH FOR READING, PLEASE ENJOY MY ATTEMPT AT A GOOD AU!! Ok so before you start this story I just wanted to clear this up:
1) This AU will be largely/loosely (yes I know those contradict but I'm not quite sure exactly how I'm doing it yet) based around the events and characters in Voltron: Legendary Defender.
2) This will not fit perfectly with the timeline (I'm going to have to introduce new characters sooner and switch the order of a few events.)
3) I will probably have to change a bunch of things because I'm trying to make it into a modern-day high school AU; there will still probably elements of fantasy, though not as clearly shown as in the show.
4) I'm hoping it turns out alright but we'll see; I may forget to add certain things or whatever.Enjoy! ~Ally
Lance's POV
I sat down at the bus stop and waited for Hunk to show up. No one else was there yet, and I was deathly bored. Great. First day of high school at the Garrison. How thrilling. I impatiently drummed my fingers on my leg. Just then, I heard a voice behind me. "Lance! Hey!" I turned to see my best friend, Hunk, jogging my way. "Hey, Hunk! What's up? You ready for high school?" He shifted his backpack and nodded enthusiastically. "You know it. I still can't believe we made it into the prestigious Garrison High. I hope I don't throw up today like I did last time..." he trailed off, and I gave my classic crooked grin. "Well maybe you shouldn't have eaten so much. You did have five servings that day." He shook his head at me. "I don't think that was it. I blame you, you're the one who thought it would be a good idea to spin me around as fast as you could in the principal's chair. Man, that alone gave us detention for a week." He sat down next to me and we talked for a few minutes before anyone else arrived. Finally, the bus came, and we were the first ones in. We grabbed a seat towards the back, where the more popular kids sat, and looked around trying to find other people we recognized. "Oh, look, there's that girl you flirted with that one time in 7th grade... the one that poured orange juice on your head," Hunk said, reminiscing. "Good times." I laughed and glanced toward the front of the bus just in time for the doors to close, and the bus took off. The bus ride itself was pretty non-eventful. I flirted with a few of the cute, popular girls sitting in front of us, Hunk worked on one of his latest projects and snacked on a candy bar, and we only ended up getting scolded by the bus driver a couple of times. By the time we made it to school, though, I was excited, yet still bored to death by the idea of school. When we finally arrived at the Garrison, we headed to our homeroom. I had wanted to take a detour to class, but Hunk pointed out that it probably would not make the best first impression if we showed up late to our first class of high school. "Welcome to the Garrison, class. I'm Iverson, both your principal and your homeroom teacher. I expect the best from all of you, in your efforts, grades, and behavior. Is that clear?" We all nodded in sync. Iverson was scary to most of the students, and he seemed pretty strict. Perfect, just what I need. A strict teacher. At least he's just homeroom... I stopped paying attention to his seemingly well-rehearsed speech, and looked over at Hunk, who was sitting beside me and furiously writing notes in his planner. "Dude, it's the first day, and we're in homeroom," I whispered, careful not to let Iverson notice me. "What could you possibly be writing down?" He shrugged and continued writing. I sighed and leaned back in my chair. I made eye contact with a pretty girl across the classroom and winked at her. She giggled, and I knew high school was going to be a breeze. I'm hot, popular, and funny. I'll do just fine.
Pidge's POV
I began my walk to school, unsure of how the day would go. The last time I had been to the Garrison, Iverson caught me hacking into school computers and banned me from the school. Now, here I was, with my only disguise being a haircut, a pair of my brother's old glasses, a new outfit, and acceptance forms. No way this could go wrong. As I made my way to my homeroom class, I began to stress. What if I get found out? Or if I can't handle the Garrison and I fail my classes? What if I- I stopped myself, and tried to focus on the positives. I'm going to find my brother. And I'm going to the Garrison! That was a lifelong dream come true. I had been so excited when I got in, though I had to use my new pseudonym, Pidge Gunderson. I sighed. Pidge had been a nickname from my brother, Matt, and now I'd have to hear it every day from a bunch of strangers. I was the first person to make it to the classroom, but, luckily, it was locked. I sat outside the door and waited, silently hoping other students would join me before Iverson got there. The more people around me, the less likely Iverson would recognize me. Fortunately for me, a large group of kids came and crowded around the door, so when Iverson finally showed up, he payed little attention to any of us as he unlocked the door. I quickly found a seat where I would be the least noticeable, and sat down. I started unpacking my stuff and made sure I had my notebooks stacked carefully on my desk. Then, I pulled out my laptop and began to work on running a program to pick up signals from all around the world. Unfortunately, another kid had sat in the seat next to me. I made sure to ignore her, and continued working. When class finally started, I pretended to pay attention, but it wasn't like I didn't already know the speech. Matt had liked to quote it daily around the house, and we all soon came to know it by heart. Class seemed to pass quickly, but by the the bell had rung, I had run the program more than a hundred times. Each time, though, the only thing I had picked up was the repeating of one word: Voltron.
Hunk's POV
Class seemed to go by quickly, since for most of the class Iverson just had us reading the syllabus and school agreements. I took notes the whole time, worried I would forget something. On our way to science, our second period class, Lance and I stopped by our lockers and dropped our stuff off. When we walked in, the teacher was writing on the board. "Hello, class! I'm your substitute teacher today, since your usual science teacher couldn't make it. Our first order of business- yes I know it's the first day, but bear with me here- is a group project which you'll be presenting to the class! Your teacher has already assigned the groups, but you'll be making an interactive get-to-know-you presentation. It can be on any presentation format you'd like to use, and you'll get points for creativity, effort, information, and teamwork, so I suggest getting to know your team first. Here are your groups," she announced, pointing to a paper on the board. Lance immediately jumped out of his seat and parkour-ed his way to the list. "Yeah, Hunk! We're together for this one! And a kid named..." He squinted at the list. "Pidge Gunderson. I wonder who that is." A kid from the back of the classroom raised his hand. "That'd be me." Lance smirked. "Welcome to the team, Gunderson." The substitute had us all move seats to sit in our groups. Pidge seemed distracted the whole time, and Lance spent most of the time trying to get his attention. "Hello? Pizza? Girls? Astronauts?" Pidge seemed even less interested at this point, and I wondered why he was so distracted. Lance looked to me, and I shrugged. The bell rang, and Pidge quickly gathered his stuff and left. "That was weird." I nodded my agreement. "Yeah." There was a pause, and I could tell Lance was up to something. "C'mon, let's follow him. We need to get to know each other anyway. What better way to do that than to hang out at break?" With that, he took off down the hall, and I had no choice but to follow.
