Dee stumbled back into her apartment. Her ankle, from the slip, was aching and almost turning into a blue black hue.
"Mason I'm off to bed!" she called out while limping towards the small doorway, into her room.
She entered her baronial room. Nothing better than home. It was messy, with clothes on the floor and a clutter of papers on her desk. The sheets on the bed were also in a mess but exhaustion took over her and she collapsed on her small bed.
The mattress felt different as she sunk into it. Normally it was tough but now she felt like she was sleeping on a cloud. Near to her fantasy on having a bed you could sink into. She closed her eyes and embraced the warmth of her bed and slipped into a deep, dreamless sleep.
* * * * * *
"Ms Idun? It's time to wake up," a silvery feminine voice pierced through the peaceful sleep.
Dee groaned and turned around in her bed. It was softer than usual, yes. This time however there was a furry feel on her fingers. Dee moved her fingers in slow petting motions to get an idea of what she was touching.
Suddenly the damp fur twitched and let out a bark.
Dee let out a yelp and sat up, in a stance ready to fight. However her sleepy eyes, not yet fully open, only caught a glimpse of what was on her bed before light poured in from the ceiling to floor window as the lady with the silvery voice opened the curtains, blinding her vision. It looked like her childhood pet, a golden pomeranian, a dog she had loved with all her heart. The dog let out a bark and ran out of the room. From a distant you could still hear it's pattering feet against the wooden floor."What on earth is happening?" Dee questioned as she put her hands on her temples.
Her head throbbed as she tried to comprehend her surroundings. Her headboard and foot board bed had been replaced with a queen size canopy bed, with baby pink net around it. Her desk which was normally a clutter of papers now had an expensive computer and the desk itself made of mahogany wood. Across from the bed, in place of her full length mirror, was a dresser with make up products neatly lined along the mirror. The room itself was huge, considering it could fit a queen size bed, a sofa, armchair and a huge desk and still could be very spacious.
"Ms. Idun, you have to get ready now," the lady spoke, now holding a knee length navy blue dress with white polka dots.
See looked up at that lady who was grinning so wide to show her pearly whites. The lady exhibited the signs of aging, some age spots on her hands and face, crows feet on the corner of her eyes and highlights of silver in her hair.
"Who are you?" Dee inquired.
"I'm Vella. I'm you're personal maid."
"Am I kidnapped?" Dee asked in fear.
"No madam. We're at your London home. You had requested to come here so that you may leave for the colonies," Vella replied as she set the dress down.
Dee looked around the room one more time in disbelief.
"My London home?" she uttered in disbelief, "when did I get a London home?"
"If I remember right Ms Idun, about 12 years ago. You were adamant on getting a 'get away home' and we had no option but to oblige."
Dee jogged her memory. When did she ever want a house in London? Why would she want a house in London? She vaguely recalled wanting a house. Dee scratched her head in confusion when it came to her.She was twelve and in school, bullied because she was the quiet kid in the corner. She remembered clearly now. She went to the park with her mother and at the velle fountain, she sat and cried. She sobbed her heart out while her mother was far under a dense tree, enjoying the cool shade. Amidst the sobs, Dee looked into the fountain, saw her reflection. Her eyes, continuously letting tears run down, we're puffy. She stood up, removed a coin from her jacket's pocket and threw it in while wishing "to get away, somewhere far, like London".
"No way Bella, that was just a wish. It's not like I won the lottery to afford this, there's clearly a mistake here," Dee rambled on in disbelief.
"It's Vella and you did win the lottery. About seven times I think. It wasn't a wish. If wishes were horses, beggars would ride," Vella politely replied.
Now that, Dee remembered clearly. As a seven year old, she wished she could win seven lottery tickets so that she could pay for her mother's medical fee.
Dee crossed her legs and sighed. This was too much for her to take in.
"Ms Idun, I must insist that you get dressed. You have a very important meeting today," Vella said as she walked out of the room.
Dee stood up, her feet on a very soft fur mat. She wiggled her toes and smiled widely at the feel of the soft material under her feet. She was not going to deny this.
She walked towards the dresser and sat down in front of it to admire it. One looking in the mirror, she let out a shriek. She looked closely in the mirror, her eyes horrified at the sight in front of her. Her reflection showed her a different image of herself. He hair were in a light blue tint instead of the usual coffee brown. Her eyes had changed from the deep hazel to chocolate brown.
'Damn k drama, making me wish this, ' she thought as she angrily stared into the mirror. In her mind she continued uttering profanities at her highschool friend who had introduced her to anime.
Dee, took a step back to examine her reflection. She was still short and chubby. Her stomach had become flat (the sweet 16 moment when pool parties were a dread and she wished to have a flat stomach to flaunt her bikini), her arched eyebrows were well shaped and her blackheads that she cursed every day were almost non existent.
"Well I guess I can live with this," Dee muttered to herself before turning around and picking the dress.
After putting on the dress, Dee wore a blazer she found, a light pink hue with blue pockets.
"Ms Idun, you look lovely as usual," Vella said as she placed a pair of pink pumps in front of Dee.
"Vella, I don't wear pumps. I'm more of a converse shoes kinda gal, you know?" Dee said as she marvelled at the length of the heels on her pumps.
"No ma'am, I don't know. You've always told me the converse shoes make you look poor and as you say it, 'very Tom boyish'," Vella retorted, crossing her arms across her chest.
Dee raised her eyebrows mostly in disbelief that her wishes made her change who she is as a person. Of all the things about her, she loved her Tom boy taste in clothes and accessories.
(It's hard to argue the fact that men's clothes are more comfortable and have annoyingly more pocket space.)
Dee slipped into her pumps and tried maintaining her balance as she stood up straight. After gaining her balance, she gave a wide proud grin and she radiated with confidence. However that confidence was short lived when she proceeded to take a step. She lost her balance, sprained her ankle and came crashing down to the cold wooden floor.
She looked up at a surprised Vella and muttered under her breath "Screw that fountain!"
This day had been terrible so far and Dee was almost done with it. She was close to giving up and wishing it all away when Vella helped her up. And while doing so, Vella clicked her tongue and said the most beautiful statement Dee could have heard that day.
"That's a pity ma'am. Perhaps you'd like to change into the beige court shoes, we don't have much time. Your mother is waiting impatiently to meet you."
On hearing that golden statement from Vella, Dee was overwhelmed with joy. She felt an Adrenaline rush and the blood furiously pumping through her veins in excitement. Her mother was alive! Guaranteed her wishes weren't all what she was expecting, she would not regret any of the wishes she made. Not now when there's a possibility to have her family back as a whole.
In a zap, she changed her shoes and ran out of the room. Wherever this house was, it was clearly an enormous mansionette. The stair leading down into the foyer and a big vase full of roses on the middle, all of it seemed like it was from a movie the younger Dee would love. And it was. However, at this moment, Dee bothered less about her interior design and more about the one person she missed and was finally back. Her mother. Waiting for her, to embrace her. She couldn't wait to fall in her mother's warm hugs once more, feeling loved again.
The wishes now seemed worth it!
