The tense atmosphere in Calum's car made Amry want to vomit. Her body's mind sits in the back of the car as Calum Webber and Jessica Falls drive to school.
The two had stayed silent the whole way, even stepping into the school. Amry followed behind, inspecting the glum hallway. Today was definitely different.
Why?
Not a single student spoke a word. The only sound was shoes scuffing, papers shuffling, and lockers closing slowly. Only the occasional patter of fingers on screens. Outside, the sky was a deep grey, with rain sprinkling. It truly matched everyone's mood.
The hallway stayed silent, no one daring to utter a word after Friday's incident with the shooter and Amry. She was a loved girl, but never considerate about others, never caring about getting in trouble. She had great grades, and always laughing.
Amry hated the silence, she knew it was because of her current state. She wanted to yell at them to forget it, but she couldn't.
"I'm okay," Amry said quietly. As quiet as she said it, it still echoed through the sad hallway.
She wanted to scream in frustration, but she didn't have the energy. Amry followed quietly behind her friends to their first class together. After the two found their seats, the brunette sat in her empty one beside them.
"Okay, class. Today you're able to do whatever you want, keep it silent though," Mr. Cacowski said.
The room stayed quiet, but whispers had started to break out. Almost everyone had their own group of whispers. Amry could hear every word of every person. But they were all about her.
"I heard it was planned for attention."
"Do you think she'll live?"
"If she dies, I bet the rest of the year will be silent."
"I miss her already."
"I hope she's okay."
Calum stood up, "Mind your own business and stop talking about Amry!"
The class instantly shut up. He stood up for Amry, not being able to take the remarks and rumors about her absence.
Amry sat back in her chair. She knew all they saw was an unmovable chair, but she was able to do anything she wanted.
Amry thought about how they stood up for her, she'd never heard them do that. She was thankful. She loved them for it.
But she wouldn't say it.
She never did.
