Lexa

I wake up around 3:00 in the morning to the sound of Jenna shuffling around downstairs. I panic slightly when I realize I never locked my door. I get up to lock it, when it suddenly bursts open and Jenna and some man walk in.

"This is my niece." Jenna says the word niece as if it's something foul tasting. "I don't know why you wanted to meet her so badly, but here she is." she gestures towards me and then yanks on his arm. "Now let's go back downstairs."

"You go get the wine ready, I'll be down in a minute." he shakes her off. She shoots me a glare, before stumbling back down the stairs. She already looks drunk enough.

I rub my eyes, trying to get the sleep out of them so I can see clearly. I flinch back when he suddenly turns the light on, temporarily blinding me.

He takes out an envelope out of his pocket and hands it to me. "Sorry for waking you up. Lola sent me." I blink a few times, trying to understand what he's talking about. I open the envelope and look over the letter.

Miss Lexa Michaels,

My name is Peter Lance. I am the lawyer Lola White hired to get you out of Jenna Evans custody. With the evidence she has given me, it will be easy enough to get you out of her custody. Miss White has already had me get the adoption papers ready. We will have you out of Miss Evans house by the end of the week. I will personally be over tomorrow morning to have Miss Evans fill out the paperwork. If she refuses we have all the rights to go to court, and I can assure you, that she will lose her legal custody of you. I very much look forward to meeting you in person Miss Michaels.

Sincerely,

Peter Lance

I look back up at the man standing in front of me, eyes wide. "Who are you?" I ask.

"I'm a friend of Lola." he tells me, before I hear Jenna call him from downstairs. He rolls his eyes. "Gosh, I can't stand that woman." he mumbles, before turning around and going back down the stairs. I laugh.

I make sure to lock my door this time, before crawling back into my bed. I put the letter inside my pillowcase and try my hardest to go back to sleep, but thoughts swirl around in my head. I'm finally gonna get out of here. I smile to myself. I finally fall asleep with that last thought.

I wake back up again at 6:00 to the sound of my old alarm clock blaring on a box next to my bed. I make my way to the bathroom and do my morning routine. I let the hot water of the shower caress my body, working out the tired muscles. After about ten minutes, I get out and wrap a towel around myself.

Knowing that Jenna is still passed out in her room from all the drinking she did last night makes me relax a little and take my time getting ready. I head back to my closet sized room, and dig through a box of clothes to find something to wear. I finally decide on a cream-colored sweater and a pair of dark skinny jeans. I slip on a pair of socks and brown lace up boots. I leave my waist length hair down, since it's still wet from my shower and pack up my bag.

I walk to the kitchen as quietly as I can, trying my best not to walk on any floor boards that creak. I pull open the fridge and look for something to eat. The fridge is practically empty except for a gallon of milk and Jenna's leftovers. I pull open cabinets looking for food. I sigh when I don't find anything to eat. Jenna stopped stocking up on food when I came here and goes out for all her meals now. Which sadly, means no food for me, so half the time I can't eat.

I walk out the front door and make my way to school. It takes about twenty minutes to get there and I'm still fifteen minutes early. I walk straight to my locker and take out the books I'll need for my first few classes and put them in my bag.

My whole body freezes when I feel his presence. I don't even have to turn around to know that's he's looking at me. I make a break for the first door I find, which just so happens to be our homeroom. I slam the door which makes the few early students jump. I walk straight over to my seat in the back and sink into it.

When he walks into the room, I hide behind my bag which is on my desk in front of me. I want to bang my head against the desk, when I see him taking the seat next to me. I freeze, when I feel his hand on mine. Those sparks racing all the way up my arm.

"I know that you can feel it too." he whispers to me. "I'm just like you Lexa. Meet me outside at lunch and I'll prove it." his hand leaves mine, and I instantly miss his touch. I look up at him behind my shield of hair. I nod. He smiles brightly which surprises me. I'm just like you. That sentence plays over and over in my head on repeat.

My classes pass by quickly and before I know it English is coming to an end. I wasn't surprised when he sat next to me again. No matter how hard I try to stay away from him, this pull I feel towards him is ten times stronger.

"Meet me at the back of the school." he tells me before leaving the classroom. I get all of my stuff together, before heading towards the exits at the back. I hesitate, before opening the door to go outside. My curiosity always did get the best of me. I pray this isn't a mistake, as I walk towards the tree line.

I only have to wait a few minutes, before I see him walking out the doo,r holding what looks like lunch trays. I raise my eyebrows at him, when he puts them down on the ground. He takes a step towards me and I take a step back. He sighs, before holding out his hand towards me, waiting for me to take it. I hesitate slightly before taking it, wanting to feel the tingles.

The sensation itself makes me breathless. He leads me into the woods far enough that no one can see us, but we can still see the school building. "Ready?" he asks me. I nod. For some reason I trust him, and I don't understand it.

He lets go of my hand and walks over to a large tree. He looks at me before grabbing it with both hands and ripping it from the ground. I gasp. I was not expecting that. He is just like me.
