A parting had appeared in the clouds, as I lay staring up at the sky, breathing heavily. I was stuck like a magnet to the ground, in such shock and adrenaline, my body had frozen. I was alive. I almost laughed aloud, I was alive. I was tempted to look out over the water, just to make sure, but I didn't want to risk it. I sighed. Damn.
I heard talking faintly but I didn't pay it any mind, I was caught up in my own thoughts and how grateful that -
"Hey, are you ok?" A deep voice asked as three heads entered my vision. I smile stretched across my face.
"Yeah," I mumbled. "Yeah, I am." I began trying to sit up, but fell back, so I tried again, only to be pushed down.
"Woah, first of all, don't sit up, I don't think you have enough energy, and second, at least move away from the edge." It came to my attention my legs were still hanging off the edge. I laughed nervously,
"Oh, yeah sorry."
"What were you doing here?" The red head girl asked, an Australian accent coating her voice.
"Uh...nothing, I'm ok now." The trio exchanged a look. "What?" One of them, the blonde boy, reached for my sleeve, pulling it up before I could stop him. I quickly pulled it back down, but they had already seen. The blue eyed boy quickly pulled me away from the edge into a warm hug, the rest forming us all into a group hug. It felt strange, in a good way, something I hadn't felt in a long time. Happy. I hadn't realised I had begun crying again until Blue was wiping away my tears.
"What's wrong?" He asked worriedly.
"Nothing, absolutely nothing." My lips contorted into a large grin. "Thank you. Is there anything I can do to repay you?" The trio wore confusion on their faces. "For what?" Said Red.
"Happiness...?" I said slowly, "I don't get it a lot, so what can I do?"
"Come with us. What's your name?" Blonde replied.
"Jordan, Dan for short."
"Alex." Red, well Alex, smiled.
"I'm Jackie," said Blonde, with a wink.
"My names Christian, and don't worry, I'm an atheist." I laughed lightly.
"Are you three friends?" I asked.
"Unfortunately," Christian smirked at his friends, in turn receiving a glare from Jackie and a punch in the stomach, courtesy of Alex. "Damn, oww, I'm kidding." I smiled faintly at their banter, a small pit of jealousy inside me.
"What's it like?" After receiving 3 equally puzzled looks, I continued, "having friends I mean." Their looks changed to sympathy.
"You're about to find out." Christian said, laying his arm over my shoulders.
"To the ice cream parlour." Alex and Jackie chanted.
"Are they a thing or what?" I whispered to Christian. He smirked at me and we both laughed. I didn't believe in fate before, but maybe the lowest point will make the sun shine.▫︎▫︎▫︎▫︎▫︎▫︎▫︎
