To the general the time it took for the arrow to leave Varus' bow and reach him seemed like an eternity. For Varus however the moment was over all too quickly.
Almost instantly Varus realized this had been to easy, there were no guards inside of the tent and with only two outside it seemed as though someone had wanted him to kill the general.
Quickly Varus rushed back to the entrance of the tent and reached for Riven.
She didn't respond.
'We have to move now!' He ordered.
Varus hadn't noticed but Riven was standing still with her hands in the air.
'We can't.' Riven responded plainly.
Surrounding Varus and Riven was a group of twelve soldiers each of them heavily armed and ready to strike.
Upon noticing them Varus instantly raised his bow and pulled back the string.
The purple arrow formed inside the bow and he prepared to fire.
The soldiers all tensed up, their weapons pointed at Varus, they were prepared to strike.
However, Varus did something that the soldiers weren't expecting.
Redirecting his bow, Varus fired the arrow into the air directly above him.
Riven anticipated Varus' action's and sprung backwards tackling him into the tent.
At the apex of the arrows climb it suddenly shattered into dozens of smaller arrows that fell on the soldiers digging into their skin in the spaces between their armour, killing them.
Varus hit the ground hard.
The force of Riven's tackle and her landing on him briefly knocked the breath out of his body.
Riven who was on top of him suddenly sprang to her feet.
'Good plan.' She complemented trying to hide her embarrassment.
Varus remained oblivious to her embarrassment and just got back up. 'Thank you.' He replied.
'We should go before any more guards arrive.' He added.
'Indeed.'
The two companions rushed outside of the tent and past the bodies of the dead guards. They knew that if this had been a trap then it would only be a matter of time before it was discovered that the trap had failed.
Finally the pair reached the outer brim of the camp. Everything seemed like it was going their way, they were going to escape.
But it was too good to be true.
The escape had been to easy. Varus and Riven were cut off. at least a hundred soldiers were waiting for them. Archers stood ready to fire should they decide to try anything.
There was no hope of escape.
'Well what do we do?' Riven asked.
'Kill as many as we can.'
'See I would agree with you but the moment we try they'll kill us.'
Varus frowned, he knew Riven was right, as much as he didn't want to admit it.
'Then what do you propose?' He asked.
'Well there's no way we can make a deal with them. But there may be one way.'
Riven faced the center of the enemy troops. Slowly she scanned them trying to find their commanding officer. There was none to be seen, however this was their only plan with a remote chance of success.
