CHAPTER 78
Send Me What Bracelets? You Better Straight Away Give Me the Money!
Xiao Chen’s hand, which was holding the medicine, stopped for a moment. He glanced at Jing Yue from the side of his eyes and said, “I remember, back then when you helped me to apply this medicine on me, you seemed to really dislike this medicine?”
“Eh? Did I? Hehehehe (chuckle)…… I absolutely didn’t, you must have remembered wrong!” Jing Yue gave out a few awkward laughs before she waved her hand and spoke. Her eyes were avoiding Xiao Chen’s, they were filled with guilty conscience. Xiao Chen took the gauze and wrapped Jing Yue’s hand properly without saying anything else.
Jing Yue sat on the carriage until they had finally arrived at what they were told was the eldest princess’ residence. Yin Qiao helped Jing Yue to get down from the carriage. However, once they stepped into the eldest princess’ beautifully decorated residence, the stewards told them that the Eldest Princess had gone to the manor at the mountain behind the residence. Jing Yue had no other choice but to reluctantly let the coachman turn around to go to the mountain.
It was said that the eldest princess had a passion for riding and archery. Somewhere far behind the Eldest Princess’ residence, there was a high mountain that serves as a hunting ground. At the side of this hunting ground was actually a matchless and exquisite garden. The tea party was held at this garden.
When Jing Yue finally arrived, the manor was already bustling with unceasing noises, cheers and laughters coming from within. Hearing the announcement of Jing Yue’s arrival, everyone stopped talking. They stared at Jing Yue, who walked leisurely proceeding inside from the manor’s gate, with eyes that were filled with curiosity.
What Jing Yue did in the palace had spread within this circle of nobilities. Today, they were finally able to see Jing Yue’s face. Naturally, sizing her up was unavoidable.
Jing Yue’s whole body had become rigid from the moment she stepped into this manor. Numerous eyes were watching her as she walked to face the person who was said to be the Eldest Princess.
The woman wearing a magnificent dress was sitting high above. She seemed to be in her twenties but in fact she almost reached her forties. Because of her delicate make up, you couldn’t actually tell that she was already quite old. Sitting beside the Eldest Princess was her daughter, Princess ZiLing.
“Respect to Her Highness the Eldest Princess.” Jing Yue bent her knees and bowed to make her salutation. People could see that she wasn’t someone that often saluted others from her shaky posture, however, her posture could be considered correct.
“You must be Jing Yue right?” The Eldest Princess’ name was Xiao PeiBai. She was the Emperor’s, as well as Xiao Chen’s, eldest sister.
“Yes.” Jing Yue slightly hung her head down and answered with a yes.
“Come here, let me take a look, how does the person Chen Er has set his eyes on looks like.” Xiao PeiBai said and beckoned to Jing Yue. Jing Yue hung her head down and slowly walked forward to let the Eldest Princess have a good look at her. There was a burst of helplessness in her heart, ‘Is there anything good to be seen staring at her like this from such a close distance?’
“Not bad, a sign of beauty.” Xiao PeiBai showed a shallow smile and nodded, saying, “Come, I have nothing good to give on our first meeting, but these are my favorite pair of bracelets. I see that you also don’t wear any head accessories, so these are for you.”
“Thanking her Highness the Eldest Princess.” Jing Yue unenthusiastically stared at those bracelets. In her heart, she wasn’t at all interested, ‘Send me what bracelets? You better straight away give me the money!’
‘Honestly!’
But these words, Jing Yue absolutely didn’t dare to say. She could only accept the bracelets and give her thanks for the favor she received. Under everyone’s envious gaze, she slowly sat down before lifting her gaze to watch her surroundings. Sure enough, she saw ShangGuan LingLan and Ning XiangYuan, these two were sitting not too far from her.
However, she also accidentally found Jing Yan, sitting in the front corner. Jing Yan was watching her with a disturbing gaze which instantly made Jing Yue’s face go black.
Everyone participated in composing poems with the intention of fawning on the Eldest Princess. The Eldest Princess on the other hand, was being very attentive towards Jing Yue. Taking a closer look, some people just made random poems, while the Eldest Princess was always directing the topic to Jing Yue’s side. This thing really gave Jing Yue a fright.
As this poem-composing progressed, Jing Yue practically almost broke her brain from thinking, arduously ransacking her head for a few pathetic verses she might had. She was afraid that her answers wouldn’t be good and would become a laughing stock. Fortunately, after she answered two verses, Jing Yue consciously said that she wasn’t good at this and the matter could be considered as finished.
