a difficult choice

The soft jiggling of a doorknob made my head jerk upwards from being bent slightly to the side. I hadn't realized I'd fallen asleep and I suddenly was worried at how long I was out. With a loud thunk, the door across the way flew open and I heard the familiar, yet maddening accent of my captor grumbling under his breath.

"Damn door." Malthus mumbled slamming it shut again. I eyed him warily, worried at what he was going to say. So far, I hadn't been tasked specifically with anything special, but I knew he'd give me something to do. Soon. If only they didn't have Nat, if there wasn't any leverage, I wouldn't be put in this situation.

"So, my dear, you got to see your sister. I'm sure that was a fun reunion."

"Just let her go." I hissed, gritting my teeth.

"Oh, it's not that simple. I have something for you, and I need to know you'll follow through." Smugly smiling, Malthus turned a chair around and sat in it backwards. My chest tightened in worry. "When and if you complete this little test, I'll give her a taste of freedom, but only after."

"What is it?" Almost whispering, I asked.

"How about I show you?" Snapping his fingers, a door opened to my right. I watched as two of his minions dragged in a young man, bloody and bruised, nearly unconscious, dropping him a few feet in front of me.

"What... do you want me to do?" I wondered aloud, moving my gaze from the man to Malthus.

"I need to make sure you understand our agreement. Freedom and safety for your sister in exchange for your cooperation. And of course, your loyalty." He grinned standing up from his chair and pushing it aside. Getting closer to me, Malthus took the man's curly brown hair and pulled him up so I could see his face.

"See this man? He's a hunter, just like your precious Winchesters, and don't try to deny your friendship with them. My spies are quite reliable. Anyways, this dumb wanker was outside our hiding spot and some of my men tried to kill him before he could come inside. Those few sentinels were unsuccessful and, unfortunately, died. He came in, guns blazing, and started to lay waste to what I've built here." I listened, curious and a bit anxious as to what it had to do with me. Malthus, as if reading my mind, spoke before I could interrupt. "My dear, this is where you come in."

"You see, what better way to show you're one of us than to kill one of our enemies?" He spoke, obviously a rhetorical question.

"What?" I asked. My eyes widened and Malthus laughed maniacally.

"You're an angel, for god's sake!" Exclaiming loudly, he threw his arms out to the sides. "Angels follow orders, though it's usually from a higher power, so this should be cake for you! Just kill the man and I'll do something about your sister."

"I... I won't kill anyone." I stuttered, attempting to be brave. I wasn't going to take orders from a low life demon like Malthus, certainly not give him what he wanted.

"Well then, perhaps I can change your mind?" Malthus narrowed his eyes and grabbed something off the table next to him. Before I could understand what was happening, the demon was in my face, his hand grabbing my face angrily.

"You do what I say and nothing else." He hissed in my ear, his eyes black. "You're mine, Alexandria, and you will follow orders." Suddenly, a blinding pain tore through me, feeling as if he'd stabbed me with fire from hell.

I gasped loudly, and my body seemed to be frozen in place. Malthus pulled his arm back and held the knife from my dad in his hands, dark red blood dripping from it. I fell to my knees, grabbing my lower left side, near my hip bone as my blood cascaded down my side. Although it hurt terribly, I could tell it wasn't as bad as my previous run in with the knife. I breathed deeply and managed to stand up, still wrapping my hands around my wound.
