Lying in front of the glowing bonfire;
Fingers dancing along flame warmed skin,
Grazing shoulders, cheeks, hands,
A slow dance thawing us to the core.
Shoes kicked off, strewn to the side;
Toes combing through night damp grass.
Looking up into inky heavens,
Cheek to cheek, matching smiles;
Moons in our own tiny universe.
Arms reaching towards constellations,
Pointing out unknown formations
In the ever-stretching ballroom of skies;
Unable to tell the North Star apart
From the light in each other's eyes.
Jokes brushing against necks, hair,
Laughter hidden by the
Weight of surrounding darkness,
Two souls, a fire and an owl,
Illuminated by a burning passion for heat,
A bubble in the disturbed night.
Content under the streaking stars
That litter the horizons with elegance,
We lay for longer, quiet and safe.
