((Louise's POV)) //7 weeks later\\ We walked into the conference room. It was a big room with a circular table and around the table sat 10 men and women. They were the leaders of the North Star. The "Big Man", as we called him, was at the far end of the table. He was bald and had a constant frown on his face. He was in charge of everything and everyone, all the time. "Agents Elliot and Titus. Sit." he said. He wasn't asking, although, I don't know if he ever did. His real name was Anthony Vos but to everyone in the organization, it was, "Director", "Sir", or "Mister Vos." We sat and looked at him, waiting for the speech we new he was going to give. It didn't come, however. He just sat there and stared at us. I swear, he was doing his best to make it the most awkward situation he could. He succeeded. Finally, after about 10 minutes of awkward staring, one of the trustees cleared his throat and said, " Agents, although your latest mission could be considered successful, we feel that there was much that could have been improved." "In other words," started Vos, "You screwed up. We don't like agents getting shot and almost killing themselves trying to save each other." "You wanted me to leave her?" Dean asked. He was clearly disgusted at the thought and wanted the whole table to know. "Listen, Agent, don't start with me. You are only here today because Agent Titus thought you were worth the investment. I, however, have always had doubts about your potential and alliance to the organization." I've always hated arrogance and people who treat Dean like he's less than anyone else. Vos was both so, of course, I hated him. I could tell Dean was also trying his best to keep himself under control. Good thing too, if he didn't, I would feel bad for the janitors who would have to clean up the blood and loose teeth, which, would no doubt be everywhere. "Ok, so what did we do wrong?" I asked, giving him a look to let him know I disapproved of him and everything he stood for. As soon as I said that, he pushed a button on the table and the "Oops" conversation started playing over the speakers. When it finished, Vos started talking again. "As you may have noticed in this recording, Agent Elliot clearly made a major mistake, almost costing you your life, Agent Titus. Ironic, considering you're the one who brought him on board." At that comment, I had had enough. I stood up and walked over to Vos, turning his chair to face me. "Listen here, you over sized windbag. Accidents happen. When you're on the field, you never know what might happen, and sometimes you have to improvise. Dean didn't mean to hit that button and when he did, we improvised and still completed our mission. When I got hit, he risked his life to go in and get me. You may think he's some kind of traitor but you're wrong. I trust him with my life and wouldn't want any other partner in the world." I had kept my voice even and hadn't shouted. Sometimes it's far more terrifying to speak calmly than to shout. He sat there and swallowed hard, then spoke, a bit shakily. "Well, thank you, Agent. We will review your case and get back to you as soon as we have made a decision. You're excused." Before he had the last words out, we had stood up and headed out. When we reached the hallway, Dean spoke. "You didn't have to do that. We all know he doesn't like me." "Dean, he was looking for an excuse to fire you. I wasn't letting that happen." I answered. "Yeah, he's always looking but if he's going to fire me, he might fire you now too." "So? If you're not my partner than I wouldn't want to work here anyway." I said. It was true. He wasn't just my partner, he was my best friend and the one person in my life I truly trusted with everything in my life. He was Dean, the guy who could keep secrets like nobody else and who would jump in front of a angry bull so you could get away. I know he would, not because he just pulled me out of a burning building, but because he had done it before. That was one of my favorite missions. He was so real, all the time. He never lied to me, not even to spare my feelings, because he wanted me to know the truth. If they were to ever fire him, I would have quit anyway. "Really?" Dean looked at me, a bit surprised. I suppose he had never even thought I would do that or that I cared that much. "Of course! My best friend is more important than some job. Besides, then we could get a job without a jerk for a boss." Dean snickered. "Yeah, we should totally quit." "We'll think about it. I mean, we wouldn't wanna hurt ol' Vos's feelings." I said, giggling a bit. "Well, anyway, I appreciate the support. And for the record, I would do the same." Dean said. " I know you would, Dean."
