((Deans POV)) It had been nearly a week but Vos and the counsel had finally decided it had been an accident and I wasn't to blame. Today, however, we had been called back to the conference room. "Agents." Vos said. We sat down and waited to see what we had done now. "We have a situation in Rio that needs immediate attention. The wife of Carlos Diablo, a diplomat from Mexico, has been taken hostage by a group of rebels. They said they will trade in return for Dante Alabastro, their leader who was captured and put in prison 3 weeks ago. Now, this trade cannot be allowed. If they release him, he and his followers will start wreaking havoc on Rio, killing anyone who gets in their way." "That's where we come in?" I asked. Vos sighed a little and replied, "Yes. You and a small team will go to Rio, free Carlota Diablo and get back here. No detours, no distractions. Understood?" We both nodded. "Good, you leave tonight so pack up." We walked out and Louise turned to me. "Sounds easy, doesn't it?" "Yeah, but I think you're trying to say it sounds a little too easy." I answered. I knew what she was thinking. She didn't trust Vos and I didn't blame her. He was a weasel. Not to mention, she had never been a very trusting person. She hadn't grown up like I had but she may as well have. She grew up here, actually. Her parents had both worked here and this is where she was born and raised. But her childhood hadn't been happy. With her parents in this business, she never saw them and she didn't get the love or attention she should have. Then, one day, she had been told that her parents weren't coming back from their mission. She was all alone and 13. Too young for that kind of loneliness. She stayed at the base and when she turned 17, enrolled to become an agent. Her first year in, they sent her to find me. We both know why they sent her on that kind of mission. They wanted to see if she was as good as her parents. She was. She is. She's the best agent they have and everyone knows it. That's why they hate me so much. I'm a bad guy turned good, technically still a rookie and I was a car thief who never even knew my parents, and yet, here I am, partnered with Louise Titus AKA Viper, the best agent in the North Star. "Well, we have packing to do. I'll see you in the hanger." and with that, she turned towards her room and I found myself watching her walk away. I don't know why but when I realized what I was doing, I became flustered. It's not like I "like" her. Like she said, we're best friends...right?
