"I'll be right back , it shouldn't take too long." Carson got out of Lea's car and headed into D&D's through the back entrance.

The door that led to the kitchen was open, the screen door was closed in order to keep the bugs and birds out. She opened the screen door and entered the kitchen. There weren't too many people in the kitchen, it was just past lunch time and before dinner.

"Hey Carson, thought it was your day off." The one person here she had built an actual relationship with was Sean.

He was a 35 year old man, married with 3 kids. He was a chef at D&D's as a second job, only working night shifts thursday through sunday. Sean was similar to a brother to Carson, she spent many lunch breaks just chilling and talking to him in the kitchen.

"It is my day off, came in to talk to Denis." She leaned against the door frame that led to a hallway.

"That doesn't sound too good, are you quitting?" Sean threw a rag over his shoulder and looked at Carson, resting his hand on the countertop.

"Got an offer for a job, i have to be in Atlanta in two weeks. So i'm here to put in my two weeks."

"What job would make you leave California."

He gave the young girl a questioning look, before it dawned on him.

"Its to film a movie i legally can't say what movie it is or what character im playing."

"Wow, how long are you going to be in Atlanta?"

"I'm down there for about a week for screen testing, outfit fittings and that jazz. Then i fly back for about two weeks. After the two weeks i go back down to start filming for about 4 months."

He looked at her impressed and shocked.

"Is it for like a franchise."

"The one thing I can answer, it's for Marvel." She thought he looked impressed before, now his mouth was wide open, he was shocked and trying to come up with something to say next.

"Like Iron Man comic book Marvel?" He looked like he was going to shit himself at this point, "Wow, uhh congratulations, I hope you know i'll be your biggest fan."

She smiled before they hugged. After they parted ways she made her way to Denis's office. The hallway wasn't huge, behind most the doors were storage closets for food, some had extra plates and bowls. She never really came back here unless there was an issue with the customers or kitchen and such.

The door was partly open, a dim light from the room shown in the hall. She knocked even though the door was partly opened. She walked in once she heard a faint come in. Walking into the office to give her two week notice wasn't something she planned to do so early on. She expected to be looking for an audition longer.

"Carson, isn't it your day off?" He set the paper he had down on the desk.

Denis wasn't your typical boss. He founded this restaurant several years earlier with his brother Darren. Darren passed just a few years ago due to cancer. Denis was very kind, he was in his mid to late 60's. He's married and has a few kids. One of those kids is soon taking over D&D's to allow Denis to retire.

"Well i came in to put in my two week notice." Carson sat in the chair that was sat in front of Denis's desk.

"Two weeks already, find a better paying job." They both let out a small laugh, Denis trying to lighten the mood considering how nervous Carson was.

"I guess you could say that, my main goal moving down to California was to become an actress and it's finally happening. I didn't expect it to be so soon but i'm not going to let the offer slide."

"You tellin me you didn't come to the beautiful state of California to be a waitress your whole life, you sure, it's a great time here." Carson took a moment to laugh at his humor.

"Im sure."

A/n: This takes place a week later after she signed for marvel and trash.

The phone rang once or twice before her mom picked up. It had been awhile since they talked, even longer since they've had a phone call.

Anita bold Carson Underlined.

Hey mom, how's everything?

It's great down here, it's been a bit chilly,
the winds don't seem to want to calm.

Maybe you should come visit, its warm almost
all year round.

Why don't you visit, your the one who moved
away from home.

Carson wanted to avoid this as long as she could in the conversation. Her mother has never come to terms with her living in california.

I was going to move away eventually, did you expect me to live with you my whole life. Plus i haven't had the money to visit.

I told you you can't make a living off of waitressing. Waitressing is not a career.

Her mom knew why she moved to California, she knew it was for acting. Carson couldn't understand why she wouldn't believe it.

Mom you know i moved down here to act.

But is acting paying the bills carson, is it. Sure doesn't seem like it is.

Of course it hasn't yet, i became a waitress to
pay the bills, i got a manager and look at me now,
i just signed a contract for the next ten years mom. For the next ten years of my life acting will
be paying the bills. I've been trying to get
in contact with you since the audition
and you never pick up.

So now it's my fault huh.

Is what your fault, nothing has been blamed on you. Your just never there for me, you never support me.

I would be supporting you if what you were doing was supporting you in your life.

You don't fucking understand! It is now,
what did you expect for me to walk into
California And be handed contracts and roles.
I had to work for it.
Not once since i moved did i ask for financial help.
Not once since i moved here was i irresponsible.
Since i moved here i've done everything on my
own to get where i'm at now. All i want is support.

You've made it clear enough you don't need my help since you've 'done everything on your own'

After that the line went dead. Carson was left wondering if she made the right decision. Was it right for her to move away and follow her dreams. It felt right in the moment, you know growing up being told she could be whatever she wanted. Yet when it comes down to it the same person who told her to do what made her happy is turning her back on her one daughter.

Why is her mom turning her back on her, what for. The only thing carson could come up with is that she's not living in rural Washington for the rest of her life. Finding some guy who probably is in the military, getting married two weeks after they meet, and having like 6 kids.

Frustrated, annoyed and upset Carson decided it would be best to think about something other how her family is treating her.

She decided to cook making something homey like steak and potatoes.
