Hindi kalaunan ay dumating na ang pagkain. We are sitting both relaxed across each other on the table that is made of rattan. It was neatly woven. Apat na ibat ibang ulam ang inihain sa amin. Zack explained each one of them to me.
"This one is Luñis, a different version of the popular Filipino dish adobo, luñis is rather served dry... this traditional dish is made of pork cooked with rock salt until its fat is rendered and it turns golden brown. Back in the old days, it is stored in its own lard in jars for months to ensure continuous supply and this is best paired nito" sabay turo sa suka na may sili.
"and this..." sabay turo sa di ko maintindihan kung ano pero alam kong isda siya.
"its called Arayu or mahi-mahi or golden dorado, gold and kulay nito and slightly mixed with hues of blue and green. In Batanes, harvesting this fish is a part of a sacred tradition. Hangang ngayon, the Ivatans here still practice it as they believe that it will protect them from the sea as well as give them a bountiful catch."
"wow ang galing mo naman sa history dito ah! dito kaba lumaki?"
"I grew up in different places. I was born in London. I had my elementary days in the US, had my highgschool days here in Batanes and college days somewhere else." nag aantay pa ako kung saan kaya yung somewhere else pero nag salita na siya ulit.
"common kain na tayo, just tell me when you do not like it so we can have them cook something else..." sinubuan niya ako noong tinawag niyang Luñis.
"Wow ang sarap naman parang mas masarap pa talaga sa adobo"
We enjoyed eating and I proved to him na hindi talaga ako mapili. I could eat anything. I mean basta ba walang lason. Kung pupunta siya sa amin sa Cebu, marami din akong gustong ipatikim sa kanya.
