Kabanata 1

I fixed myself while looking at the mirror. My formal and corporate attire is all pink while I am sporting a stiletto nude heels. I must say I still look horrible. The natural makeup my friend did to me wasn't enough to cover up my dark circles and pale anemic lips. It should've been a little heavy at least, because it's not just the eyes and lips that I want to cover up, but I want to cover my face. I don't want them to know who I really am.

I released a heavy sigh. My resume will just reveal what kind of person I am. Well, this is my last job search and interview. I know for sure they won't accept me. Pinilit lang ako nina Lani at Kera dito. I walked up to the interview room and saw people staring and taking glances. Some people are even taking pictures. Tinakpan ko ang mukha ko with my bag.

"What a rat! She really thinks a disgrace like her will be accepted here." Rinig kong sabi ng isang babae habang hine-head-to-foot ako.

"Number 13, you're next."

Tumungo agad ako at dali-daling binigay ang resume ko. They all looked like they are confirming something. Hindi pa man ako nakakaupo ay tinanong na nila ako. "You're the daughter of Ysmael Ad---."

I nodded. "Yes." I confidently said while clenching my knuckles above my slacks. I am just holding this anger that starts to boil up inside me.

"I am sorry to say but we cannot hire you. You can now go." Aniya ng babaeng sa tingin ko ay kaedaran ko lang and who is a popular news announcer.

I know where this thing is going but why did I expect something good will at least happen to me this day? I just thought that this big news station will hire people fairly and justly without considering where they are coming from. I just thought....

"And why would that be? Without knowing my credentials ma'am, sir?" I politely said looking at them while holding back.

I secretly want them to look first at what I really got and what I can prove. That record is not too much and not too less for them not to hire me.

"What's there to know? You don't have too much experience, you got fired and every company you go rejects you. Might as well we'll do the same." She smirked while sipping her coffee. Rinig ko ding tumawa ang dalawang panel.

I can see how the curve in her face grew just to annoy me. And now, I just realized she's one of the aspiring prom queens year 2013. She's a year older than me and she was mistakenly announced as the prom queen na sana ay ako. I was crowned while she felt so much embarrassment. That was sad,I know, so I apologized. But I didn't know Heila Martinez would still be bitter about this issue until now.

I felt my blood rising up numbing my face. But I still managed to smile, "I can't believe that this huge company were hiring trash who look down on people." I smirked and grabbed my bag.

I was looking at her and she stopped from sipping coffee at padarag na inilapag ito sa mesa. I smiled at her while I walked confidently until I reached the entrance of the building.

Napahawak ako bigla sa railings nang maramdaman kong nanghina ang mga tuhod ko. No Ellie, this isn't the right time to cry. The last thing you'll do is to cry in front of this huge waste of a company. The next day, you'll see yourself featured in television. You've cried too much, aren't you used to it?

Pumasok ako sa isang doughnut shop at bumili ng isang dozen ng glazed donuts. This is going to make my mom happy. At least, seeing a box of sweets will also make me forget about that.

I hired a cab and went to the hospital. The nurses I met smiled at me. Well, the hospital is where good people is. Siguro kasi matagal na ako sa hospital na 'to, people got used to this face.
