14. MYSTERY.

. . . .

"THAT is not possible. I am immortal, I've watched how the world change from time to time, but despite the changes, I remain in this body, in the same state." It was a rare thing for Taehyung to lose his composure. But how could he stay collected when he knew he had died in the future? Although a part of him felt relieved.

At least now he knew he wouldn't be stuck in the same cycle, someday, this tiring lifestyle would come to an end and he's never been so relieved after thousand years of living.

This would end, he would die.

"That's the thing, Taehyung. I came back here to do a research of your death, since from what we know, you will die soon, within this year."

Scary how her face remained flat while saying those words, as if those wouldn't affect the other party at all, well—it didn't. He was delighted, even though it might be weird—it was.

"Oh, that's good to hear. But I can't really tell you anything about that, since I don't know what possibly could kill me. I've had cancers in my past lives, I've been into a bunch situations that could kill normal human beings, but for me, the pain eventually subsided and here I am, healthy and all. I'm sorry I'm not much of a help." His tone came off a little bit rude, but he couldn't help but to feel different emotions swirling within his body.

"It's alright, Taehyung. I am so sorry for being so insensitive and telling you all this, I can't lie to you either, that'll be very rude," she sounded forlorn, which was rare. Her emotions resembled the straight lines of a heart monitor—so dead, so crestfallen. But when there's fluctuations, there's life. And it would be a lie if Taehyung didn't feel so alive when she's around. His heart knew better than anyone else.

When they're together, there's up and down, there's life.

Silence.

"Taehyung," Eloise broke the momentary tranquillity with her voice. "Scientists are trying to put your puzzles together in my time. Because you see, even though you are dead in the future, your body is still intact, perfectly shaped just as the you right now. We've tried doing this and that, but your organs kept regenerating."

Taehyung let out a humorless chuckle. "Wow, that's not very pleasing to know. I am basically half-dead in your time, but I, myself, would like to know how I ended up being like that too. I'm already tired and bored of this type of life. I've watched how mysteries became mysteries, how tales from the past were folded and became a history, I've done so much things until there's nothing left to do, I've witnessed death more than enough, it's time for all this to stop."

"It's okay, Taehyung. Everything is going to be over soon," Eloise reminded and somehow, dead was a normal topic to be brought up. It's quite sad how they could talk about it so casually.

"You've watched how mysteries became mysteries and now, you became one of those mysteries, Tae," Eloise muttered. "But to me," she stopped her sentence, putting her palm above Taehyung's, causing the other to jolt a bit from the tickling warmth.

"You're not only a mystery, you're not only a study subject. The days we spent together had been so much fun and I wish we would be able to do fun things together more often, but this is where I depart from your life. My time is up. So long, Kim Taehyung. I am not very good with words and feelings, but you'll always be in my memories."

Eloise smiled, for the first and the last time in his life. If anything, he's willing to give up his immortality just to see that smile once again.
