There was a cancellation of study hall at school today. Brian Ronaldson, one of Wes' bullies, decided to mess with Wes and I once again during study hall. This time he involved his goons and our friends. It resulted in a riot.
"Hey, oil spill." He started off with petty insults. "How's the shithole- I mean your house?"
"It's probably doing better than your inbreeding farm you call a home." I told him off. "Now leave me an' Wes alone. We're trying to prepare for a test."
"You'll probably fail anyway." Don Raigner snickered. "All that oil must have seeped into your brain, Fonz!"
If there was anyone I hated more than Brian Ronaldson, it's Don Raigner. Don and I have been enemies since sixth grade, when he didn't show to the first dance and his date slow danced with me. Now we're in our junior year of high school and he's been bullying me since September 6th of 1969 and now it's November 20th of 1977. One more day before we're off for Thanksgiving and I'll probably be spending the rest of this one and the entirety of the next one in detention.
"Could you guys leave us alone?" Wes was becoming annoyed fast.
"What are you going to do?" Jerry Gariss dumped a soda on me.
Our friend, Luther Sanders, whom we call "Bear" walked over.
"Hey." Luther said. "They did not do anything to you. Leave them be."
Luther was a big and strong kid which is why we called him Bear. He's an Apache Indian who came from Southern California. We met in 7th grade when he first moved to L.A. He never told us why but we got along anyways.
Anyways back to the story.
Jerry spat in Luther's eye.
"Stop." Luther was starting to lose it.
Don punched him in the face.
"Dad says that the only thing that's bad enough as the negroes is the redskins." He sneered.
"What did you say?!"
I had forgotten that Dale was in study hall with us.
Dale is my best friend besides Luther and Wes. He's into the rock and roll scene. Dale is also an African-American.
"You better keep your mouth shut pretty boy!" He marched up to Don. "I just got this jean jacket and I don't want to wash bloodstains out of it!"
Brian decided to hit Dale. And Marshal Raigner, Don's cousin came up and hit Luther. Luther picked Marshal up by the shirt collar and slammed him against the table.
Dale punched Jerry. And the fighting began.
Kevin, another one of Brian's friends came up to me and gouged my eyes.
"Ow! You shit!" I screamed.
I regained my vision and jumped on Kevin. I started screaming and cussing at him and whaling on him.
That's when the teachers came rushing down the hallway. Mr. Patton was the first to get in there. Patton loves Brian and his friends so that means he automatically hates us.
"DAVIDSONS, I KNEW YOU HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THIS!" He shouted. "YOU TWO, INCLUDING ANDERS AND WILLIAMSON GO TO THE OFFICE!"
"But I didn't even do anything!" Wes said.
"I DON'T CARE!"
"Let Wes go." I insisted. "He was just trying to study."
"DO NOT ARGUE WITH ME, TOM!"
"Fine!" I yelled at him. "Just because your puffy hair, ugly ass sweater vest, boyfriends don't like him, you have to be an unfair bitch-ass!"
Wes, Luther, and I followed Dale out of the classroom.
We went to the principal's office.
"I'll see you four at once. Mr. Patton told me everything." Principal Locke said. "Come in."
"All four of you, are to go to detention hall for the rest of today. And tomorrow. I have arranged that you will take your history test in there."
"And what of Don Raigner and his pals?" Dale asked.
"They were jumped by you from what Patton told me. Therefore they won't be punished."
"That's horseshit!" Wes exploded. "I was just studying and I get punished but THEY started it and they get off SCOT-FREE?!"
"Wes." Locke said. "I'll make you stay after school if you keep behaving like that."
Detention was boring. It was basically Mrs. Heiffer going "when will you learn that your actions have consequences?"
We snuck out when Heiffer went to the bathroom and left Billy Vincent in charge. Billy doesn't really care about anything.
"Hey Billy." I said. "Is it alright if my pals and I just get outta here?"
"Sure." Billy kept reading his comic. "I don't care. Go."
We went out of the back exit.
"In a hurry, Davidson?"
I forgot Jerry and Brain would occasionally skip their last class.
We tried to go back inside.
Jerry and Brian chased us into the kitchen, where Don was.
They weren't skipping just to skip. They were skipping because they were waiting for us like they knew we were going to sneak out of detention.
Don grabbed a knife and slashed Wes' hand. He tried to stab Luther but Luther grabbed his hand.
"Whatcha gonna do, Tonto?" He taunted.
"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?!?!" It was Mr. Davis' voice. "ANDERS LET GO OF HIM. RAIGNER, PUT THAT KNIFE DOWN OR YOU'RE GONNA BE SORRY!"
Mr. Davis rushed over to us.
"You alright, Wes?" He took his bandanna out of his pocket and bandaged Wes' hand with it.
"Tom, Dale, and Luther, go on home. Same for you two." He pointed at Jerry and Brian. "Wes and Don, you're coming with me to see Locke."
And here we go with the principal again.
Mr. Locke got the full story out of us, including Mr. Davis
