I lay my head down against the cool steel of the table before me, the temperature of the room feels like prickling ice against my feverish skin. A soft sigh escapes my lips as my arms slide beneath my chin like a firm cushion. The personality reports and files of different members of our pack that I had been previously studying rustle beneath my skin briefly before settling back into a state of stillness. The silence is comforting, unlike most other silences this one creates an air of tranquility; something I don't get to experience often.
The War Room has always served as an escape from the stress and issues within the pack, no one is permitted to be in here without my explicit instruction. The only people who have personal access to the War Room are the Alpha, Luna, Beta and Talon. Never have they entered the War Room without alerting me first, this is simply respect as the Head Warrior is the Alpha of the Warrior divisions and the War Room is their domain.
All Alphas have Betas.
My jaw clenches and I sit up abruptly in my seat, a soft growl of frustration leaving my lips. Cold hands raise to rub my face tiredly as I stand to my feet and move towards the stationary shelf. Gripping a pen and paper, I return to my seat and exhale deeply. My eyes remain trained on the blank sheet of paper, almost expecting the words I need to express but can't put into words to appear. My heart lurches, the sick feeling of anxiety pools in my stomach and I groan quietly.
The moment I sign this paper the deed is set and I will have fully accepted my fate as the Mate of Roman. The last part of my life and purpose that I cherish will be deemed redundant and no longer existing. This is to be my form of resignation, my last will in a sense. The handing over of my position and my duties is like handing over my purpose in life in order to start a new one. A new life that I resent even beginning.
"
Alpha and Luna,
As I am in the process of leaving this Pack in order to join my Mate in the Blood Rite Pack, I leave these instructions. This is to act as my official declaration of my resignation of my duties and responsibilities. This will also serve as my choosing of who will inherit my roles in this Pack once I have left.
I, Accalia Prospero, hereby declare my resignation of the following positions:
Head Warrior to Alpha Aeyrgon.
Beta to Faoiltiama Aeyrgon, future Luna of the River Ash Pack
Alpha of the Dark Warriors division of the River Ash Pack
Future Beta of the River Ash pack "
My heart pounds in my chest as I finish the declaration and pass on my position, my jaw clenching at the sight of the line on which I would have to sign once it's been approved. Could I really do this? I exhale lightly when I realise that I don't really have a choice, I'm trapped in a burning room with only one exit. What other options do I have than to simply follow through with what the Moon Goddess has set to be my fate? You can't fight fate, you can't battle destiny and you definitely cannot win against the Moon Goddess. I can only pray that she knows what she's doing and the plan that she has is one that I can handle.
I leave the letter unsigned, slip it in an unsealed envelope before placing it inside the Alpha's file drawer. He will be in here within the next couple of days to check the official documents being placed here from Talon and I, it's protocol for us to write reports and leave them for the Alpha and Luna to look over and assess.
I exhale lightly, rubbing my arm as I move to exit the room. I haven't even left and yet I know that I will miss this sorely.
"Accalia!" Moonstreak's voice pierces through the stillness of my mind. I swallow, slightly startled by her sudden presence.
