Secretly Married

You and Shawn had been dating for four years before he proposed to you last year. No one but your families and your closest friends knew you two got engaged. You kept it a secret for such a long time, even up until you got married, which was a secret event as well. You two didn't think that the secrecy would last this long with Shawn being followed by the media literally everywhere he goes, but you've been married for three months and it's still a secret.

It's not that you two wanted to hide your marriage, neither of you really cared, it just happened that way, and it just so happens that nobody has figured it out yet, until now. 

"We've got Shawn Mendes here with us today on Capital FM, and he's about to play truth or dare." The interviewer says into the mic, adjusting his headphones. 

"This is gonna go great, I can already tell," Shawn says sarcastically, shifting in his chair, looking over at the other interviewers, another guy and a girl. 

They laugh at his nervousness while the main interviewer, Dave, thinks of a Truth or a Dare for Shawn. "So, Shawn. This first one is a truth question."

Shawn nods his head, ready for the question. "What ridiculous thing has someone tricked you into doing or believing?" Shawn sighs in thought, and he can't help but smile as he recalls all of his weird encounters with fans. 

"Well, I was taking a picture with this fan, I think it was in Scotland, and she handed me this book and told me that I was her husband." Everyone laughs, including Shawn, at the odd memory.

"And in the book that she gave me was a bunch of evidence, according to her, which was just a bunch of fake, photoshopped photos of our "relationship" and a detailed story of how we met and how I forgot that I was married to her." Shawn looks around the room at everyone's priceless reactions. 

"So, how'd you break the news to her?" Lilah, the female interviewer, asks. 

"I just told her that it was sweet, and then I asked her if I could keep the book because it was so creative and it looked so real." He answers truthfully, making everyone burst out in laughter.

"Way to crush a girls heart, mate." George, the last interviewer says sarcastically before it's his turn to ask Shawn a truth or dare. "Alright, this next one is a dare." Shawn laughs nervously before nodding, hoping that the dare won't be anything too embarrassing.

"I dare you to open up your messages on your phone and scroll through them and text the person you land on telling them that you just got married." Shawn groans at the idea, hoping that it doesn't end up landing on y/n name. 

"Oh, god." He says, shaking his head as he takes out his phone and opens up messages.

"Just to make sure that you don't cheat, I'll scroll, you hold the phone," George says, moving closer to him. 

Shawn holds out his phone, silently praying that it's not you. Dave and Lilah countdown until George finally flicks a finger up on the screen, quickly stopping it and keeping his finger where he left off. 

Shawn doesn't even bother to look, because George looks over at him and laughs. "It's y/n! Oh, you're in trouble, man." Little do they know, Shawn thinks as he takes his phone back, still holding it out in front of him so George and Lilah can see.

"Do I have to?" He whines, looking up at Dave. 

"It's a dare! And what a coincidence that it landed on y/n, makes this a hundred times better!" They laugh as Shawn's fingers hover over the keyboard before quickly typing the words out. 

He hesitates before sending it, knowing what their secret is most likely about to be revealed, live on a London radio. "She's gonna be so confused."

A couple seconds go by and you immediately respond, making Shawn's heart flutter. "She texted back saying, Shawn, that doesn't make sense." Shawn looks up from his phone and laughs, trying to think of what to say next. 

"Wait, why wouldn't it make sense?" George asks Shawn, genuinely confused by your answer. All Shawn does is shrug his shoulders and smile, following up with an, "I don't know."

"Ask her," Lilah concludes, making Shawn's heart drop in his chest by how anxious he is. 

He waits a few seconds for her to respond, as soon as he sees her reply, he hides his phone and laughs. Lilah reaches out for his phone and pulls it from his grasp. "Nuh-uh, you've gotta show us!" Shawn reluctantly gives up his phone, biting his lip in the process.

"She said, Shawn, we've been married for months. WHAT?" Lilah's eyes widen as she reads off the text, quickly turning her head to look at Shawn. "Is this a joke?" He shakes his head, making her look over at Dave in disbelief.

"Wait a minute, hold on, you guys are married?" George asks Shawn, and all he does to respond is nod his head and smile widely.

"Since when?" Dave finally asks, an amused smile making its way on to his face. 

"About three months?"

"How come nobody knew? How long were you guys engaged?" Lilah is on the edge of her seat, her full body turning to face Shawn in absolute astonishment. 

"We were engaged for nearly six months, and it's not like we were keeping it a secret. It's just that nobody ever found out." He shrugs his shoulders, amused by their responses as he spins his chair slowly and absentmindedly.

"I can't believe what I'm hearing, so much for the game!" Lilah says, a big smile on her face as she throws her hands in the air.

"I can't believe that we just exposed Shawn Mendes and y/n y/l/n on our show." Dave looks over at the producers in front of him, behind the cameras, as he speaks.

"Actually it's y/n Mendes." Shawn laughs as Lilah lets out a loud squeal.

"Oh, stop! You're gonna make my heart explode!" She puts a hand over her heart as she dramatically fans herself with the other.

"I'm very curious as to why your whole entire team back there is not alarmed by this at all," George tells Shawn as he points behind them where Andrew, Ziggy, Geoff, and the rest of his team are standing, laughing. 

"They already knew," Shawn answers as he shares a knowing smile with Geoff. 

"You should probably text her back and tell her that she just got exposed by everyone here at Capital Breakfast." Shawn nods at George and laughs before typing out the text and pressing send, not a moment later do you text back.

"She said, I know, I just turned on the radio." 

"Alright, ladies and gentleman, as soon as we come back, we'll have Mrs. Mendes live with us on the radio so stay tuned and join us after the break!" Dave says into the mic, looking over at an amused Shawn as Lilah begins to pester him with questions about you.
