I walked along the streets of New York. It was cold and snow was still covering the streets, but was slowly melting away. I finally came to Mr Delmar's and got my regular. He didn't recognize my order, but I sat in the back of the shop and peacefully ate my sandwich.
I was halfway through when some men in black uniforms came in. They looked like guards.
"Have you seen this man, sir? His name is Peter-"
"I know who he is. And no, I haven't seen him. Not for a while."
"Can we hang signs on your windows?"
"I guess." Me Delmar sighed annoyed.
I tugged my hood to cover my face more. The men hung up the signs and left. I stayed for a while before leaving. When I got up to leave, there was only Mr Delmar in the sandwich shop.
"I know it's you." He said as I reached the door. I paused. "You can't keep running Peter."
"I can. I got caught once and I'm not going to again."
"I've already told you and I'll tell you again. You can stay with me. I'll help you."
"Thanks Mr Delmar. But I can take care of myself." I said before pushing the doors open and leaving.
I was down the street when my phone rang. It was Happy. I sighed and silenced my phone so I couldn't hear the ringing.
I go up to the roof of an apartment complex that had a fire rail going up. I watched as the sun set in the ocean. I took a deep breath of the late city air that I had missed for so long. It's what I grew up on. But I was finally back.
