SIX
goodbye

ˇ

YOONGI RAKED A hand through his hair, his bed hair rough and disheveled. He walked out of his room, letting out a soft yawn on the way out. Yoongi hadn't slept at all these past weeks. The only instances where he fell asleep was when he cried for long hours at night. It just so happened that last night was one of those moments. Yoongi hated crying himself to sleep, the tear streaks that stained his cheeks from the night before stiffening his cheeks. He walked towards the kitchen door, halting as the fresh aroma of brewed coffee filled his nose. He heard the coffee pot creek as it touched the stove. He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, wondering if someone was in his house.

Suddenly, he realized the only explanation that was necessary. His heart started to pick up its pace, hoping that she would be standing in the kitchen making coffee. He hoped that he'd get to see her for once. He hesitated before pushing open the kitchen door. His hands shook as they touched the wooden door. He peered in, his breath hitching.

Seoyun stood in the kitchen with tired eyes and a white ceramic mug filled with hot coffee in her hands. Gray smoke escaped from the liquid, warming her cheeks when she took a sip of the drink. She placed the cup down, rubbing her eye. Her gaze diverted its attention towards the boy in the doorway. Her heart stopped at the sight of him, not expecting him to be awake. She dreaded seeing him and she savored every chance when he wasn't around. She noticed a lot of things that were different about him, how hollow his cheeks became or how exhausted he looked.

Yoongi couldn't control himself in that moment. He rushed over to her, holding her in his embrace. He nuzzled his face into her neck, squeezing his eyes shut. His grip gently tightened around her as he pulled her close to him. Yoongi longed for this, the moment when he'd get to see her instead of her figure through the crack in the doorway. He craved for her, every single day.

Seoyun, however, was taken back by the sudden action. Her eyes widened as her head rested on Yoongi's chest. Her body grew stiff, feeling his soft breath against her neck. She didn't hug him back, refusing to show sympathy towards him. Yoongi released her from his hug, stepping back with a smile on his face. His eyes sparkled with happiness, the feeling growing familiar to him as he embraced her. He hadn't felt it in a while and when he did, it felt amazing.

"Where have you been all this time, Seoyun? I've missed you," He asked in a soft tone, searching for an answer in her eyes.

"I've been busy with work," She responded flatly, lying straight to his face, no emotion in her voice whatsoever. She stared at him as if he was any another person. She didn't see him the same way anymore. She knew that for a long time, yet she refused to confess it to him. She was too caught up in her recent antics, not noticing what she left behind.

Yoongi felt uneasy hearing her words. He knew that it was a lie, but he chose to accept it. He knew what a fool he was being for hugging her, for asking her. He didn't want to lose the moment in front of him. He would play the fool for as long as he had to if it meant getting to be with her.

"Well, let's do something if you aren't busy, like old times," He asked, itching to reach out to grab her hand. She shut her eyes as she frowned. She opened them, seeing that the smile on his face was still there.

"Look, Yoongi, there's something that I need to tell you," Seoyun stated, her tone shattering his smile. His cheerful expression dropped in an instant, his eyes clouded with worry and curiosity.

"I don't love you anymore, Yoongi. I just don't feel the same way as I used to. I lost the spark that we had in our relationship and it's not you, it's me. I don't want to continue something that means nothing to me anymore. I'm sorry to say this but," she stopped, inhaling a deep breath. "I'm breaking up with you, Yoongi."

Those simple words made Yoongi's whole life shatter. His body grew stiff at her harsh words. His body shook as his heart stopped beating. He was scared, lost in the words she said. Seoyun wasn't sorry for what she did or for what she said to him. She meant every heart piercing thing she said. She truly didn't love him anymore, unable to have any affection for him.

"What?" He questioned, his voice growing softer. He heard everything she said but refused to accept it. He was in denial, unable to understand the fact that Seoyun was breaking up with him. He refused to understand that she lost her love for him.

She stepped away from him, "I said I don't love you, Yoongi. I hope we can do better without each other."

She tried to find something to say to him to ease the pain, yet she couldn't find anything. She wanted to reassure him with sympathy but it meant nothing to her. She took out her pair of keys for his house from her pocket, placing it on the table.

"This is goodbye, Yoongi," She walked away from him and leaving the house.

He stood in the kitchen, unable to move. He watched as she walked away from him, his breathing staggered. The life that was in his heart dispersed. His eyes become hotter, tears wanting to pour out. He ran out of the kitchen, running out the front door. He pushed it open, running down the stairs, stopping when he reached the end. He stood on the sidewalk, watching her figure ascend down the road.

His lips quivered, his heart pushing against his chest. Hot tears flooded down his cheeks, dripping onto the concrete ground. His vision became blurry, her figure out of sight. All that he kept hidden became harder to hold it in anymore. He stood there, sobbing as he poured out everything he had left.

His breath hitched before growing heavier. Tears fell heavy from his eyes. He couldn't fully accept it, even though he knew that their breakup was soon to come. He wanted to make things better between them during the time he had left with her. He wanted to give her a reason to hold on, to not let go of him yet. Without him realizing it, his heart tried to convince him that there was some hope left for them. He failed to realize that Seoyun already gave up a while ago. She already planned to say goodbye, way before Yoongi could notice it.

He couldn't say goodbye yet.
