Amber's PoV

21st September 2013

"Amber? Can you come here please?" I sighed as my mum yelled up the stairs to me.

"I'll be down in a sec mom!" I yelled back, before slumping back on my bed for a second. I quickly got up and jogged down the stairs.

"Sit down, Amber" my mom said as I entered the kitchen. Her and my older brother, Jack, were sitting at the island with emotionless expressions on their faces.

"What did you want to talk about?" I asked, expecting something like 'You have to quit basketball' or 'Jack is moving out' neither of which I'd be that bothered about, sure I love basketball but I could live without it. As for Jack, I love him but I doubt he'd go far, plus I can get my drivers licence next year so it wouldn't be difficult to go see him.

"I got a job offer in Canada." She said simply. My jaw dropped, and I had to restrain myself from yelling. I took a few deep breaths and calmly asked "when do we leave?"

"In a week." My mom replied, with sorrow in her eyes. She knew how close I was with my friend so she understood that this would be tough for me.

I walked up the stairs and into my room, slamming the door behind me. I quickly phoned Sophie, my best friend. She answered after a few rings, and immediately the tears came flooding out.

"Amber what's wrong?" She asked, clearly worried.

"P-please c-an y-you come o-o-ver to my h-ouse? I asked between breaths.

"Of course! I'll be over in 5. I love you," She said, to which I replied "I love you too," and hung up.

5 minutes later the doorbell rang and my mom answered it.

"She's upstairs," I heard my mom say.

"Thank you, Ms Wood" Sophie said. I heard her footsteps as she ran up the stairs and stormed into my room.

"Stop crying." She said firmly. I took a few deep breaths and gathered myself.

"Okay, now tell me everything." She continued. I told her the whole story, and she looked at me with full interest the whole time.

"This is okay, I think it will be good for you. It will force you out of your comfort zone, you'll have to make new friends and get used to your surroundings. Sure we'll all miss you, but every summer I promise we'll see each other, okay?" I nodded, before she went on to say "and we'll FaceTime every week too. Why don't we FaceTime everyone now?" She asked. I nodded and she set up a group call with with Adam, Millie and Jamie. They all picked up to see me with mascara all over my face and my head leaning on Sophie's head. She draped a blanket around my shoulders as the others questioned what was going on.

"Can you tell them?" I whisper to Sophie.

"Of course," She said with a weak smile, before explaining everything to them.

Once she had finished, they all told me how they would miss me but we'd stay in contact. My life would be so weird without them, it'll definitely take a long time to get used to.

After a while we hung up the call. Sophie stayed over, and we stayed up till around 3 in the morning chatting about random stuff to take my mind off the situation at hand. After many hours of chatting, we finally went to sleep, her arm around me and my head resting on her shoulder.

Sophie is like a sister to me, and I'm going to miss her so much. But she's right. I need to look at the positives, it'll push me out of my comfort zone, and I think this will be good for me.

*1 week later*

28th September 2013

We headed to the airport, and Sophie, Millie, Adam and Jamie came with us to say goodbye. I didn't talk much on the journey there, I couldn't bare the thought of not seeing them every day.

After around an hour, we finally made it to the airport. We all headed to Starbuck's to spend our final few hours together. I decided to post to Instagram.

After a while, our plane got called for boarding. We gave our final goodbyes then I turned into our gate. I knew they were waving but I couldn't bare to look back. I had to walk forward, into my new life, whatever that holds.

I hoped you liked the first chapter of this book, I'll probably update again soon
