Rain poured on the ground outside, my arms were heavy from the guns we carried. Each one bigger than the last. Nobody knew where the supply was coming from, but I guess that was for the best. The guns just showed up at the outskirts of our camp, we always assumed it was the commoners trying to show their support. The guns were always loaded with multiple cases of ammo to back it. Always a step ahead of the enemies. But in return a canteen of water, a few soup cans, or a crate of clothing would go missing. Although it was always what we could spare. We were always on our feet. How could we have gone so wrong? We did everything right. We kept our enemies in plain site and shot them down one after another. But they just kept showing back up. Like ants fleeing their homes.
We used the rain to hide our footsteps as we went, the rain never stopping on those good fourteen weeks. Some wondered if an entire ocean was used to flood our battlefield. But we continued on. Marching through the unclaimed territory that stood as no mans land. We made our way through an untamed country. My boys right behind me. And this is when everything started going wrong.
From the middle of the field covered in mud was a young woman, unconscious and in a pool of blood. A few broke ranks, taking off in her direction, I was one of those few. My boys, smart as they were stood back waiting, watching. Ten feet from her, thats how far away I was when the bombs went off. I've never experienced pain like that. The entire world a sea of white that I thought would never end. It all stopped, the rain, my aching legs. Nothing mattered.
When I felt the rain again, it didnt even seem like rain. It was like acid against my face, opening my eyes I saw the massacre around me. Thousands of souldiers, roaches as they were, scuttling around. My entire troup being gunned down, this was the end.
Now let's see the beginning.
