The Honda Civic roared down the freeway, the smell of fertilizer drifting into the open car door windows. Adam was at the wheel, wearing a Red Ranger costume. Patterned on his chest were the familiar three diamonds, with the inaccurate Tyrannosaurus Power Coin symbol emblazoned in the middle. The fabric had a shine to it.
Danny's costume was simpler. Underneath his dark-blue sweater vest, he wore a striped shirt tucked into his jeans. His hair was combed neatly to one side, and his face was framed in thick, black horn-rimmed glasses. Completing the costume was a brown leather jacket with a patch on the left breast reading, "DENTON HIGH SCHOOL 1963". If you didn't ask, you probably wouldn't know he was supposed to be Brad from The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Adam turned to Danny. "Want to play Twenty Questions?"
"I dunno. I'm never good at it."
"Oh, come on. You can't be that bad!"
Danny sighed. "I guess."
"Cool. But here's the catch: They've all got to be people—specifically associated with the horror genre."
Danny nodded in contemplation. "Interesting."
"I'll go first," Adam said.
"Alright... Are they female?"
"Nope."
"Is he older than 20?"
"Yes."
"Is he real?"
"Yes."
"Is he famous?"
"To a select few."
"Is he a musician?"
"Mostly."
Danny smirked at the realization. "It's Marilyn Manson!"
"Nope. Close, though."
"Alice Cooper?"
Adam paused, wondering if Danny needed a hint. "You're focusing too much on the 'mostly'."
"Wait a minute... Is it Rob Zombie?"
"Finally! Okay, your turn."
Danny hummed and hawed as he thought. "Got one."
"Is your character a man?"
"Yes."
"Is he fictional?"
"Yes."
"Is it Michael Myers?"
Danny groaned in defeat.
"Actually, you were right."
Danny cocked an eyebrow.
"You do suck at this game."
They laughed awkwardly as the wheat and fields of the countryside shifted into a quaint forest. The concrete pavement was interrupted by the crunching of gravel underneath the tires. The sky that was once the clearest of blues changed to twilight as the clock on the dash approached five.
Adam broke the silence as he pulled into the driveway. "Here we are."
Both of them stepped out of the car and approached a rustic log cabin—something straight out of the Evil Dead trilogy.
