Chapter 3
Remembrance
"Li!" Tomoyo Daidouji called out.
Syaoran opened his eyes and looked down. He was found again, disturbing the silence he was enjoying. "Hello Daidouji." He greeted and decided to go down and talk to her. After all, Sakura would not arrive until she finished her work.
The girl shrugged. "We have been friends for months so can you just please call me by my first name?"
Syaoran hesitated. He looked at her, seeing the determination on her face. 'This girl will not stop until she gets what she want, will she?' he said to himself and sighed inwardly.
"Please."
With a sigh, Syaoran gave up. "Okay. Tomoyo."
She smiled. "Can I call you Syaoran too?"
"Honestly," The guy started and tried to think of the right words to say. Being a man of few words, Syaoran was not used in dealing with this kind of situation. "I am not really comfortable of others calling me by my first name."
"Oh. Isn't that allowed in Hong Kong?"
Syaoran shook his head. He really had to explain after all. "No. It's just that, only my family and two girls call me by my name. The first is Meiling Li, my cousin and the other is obviously Sakura."
"Ah." Tomoyo said. "I hope I can call you by that name soon too. I want to be your close friend too you know."
"Yes, soon."
"I am glad." Tomoyo flashed him a bright smile. It was an achievement for her because with all those months she and Syaoran spent in the class, Syaoran remained silent and a little aloof to others. Fortunately, she was given the chance to see the soft side of him every time she saw him with Sakura. "Anyway, how many years have you been friends with Sakura?"
"Hmm..." Syaoran said, remembering the year he first stepped in Japan. "I think it's almost six years. I went here in Tomoeda during the fourth grade for some kind of mission until the fifth grade. I went back to Hong Kong for a year, but my mother decided to transfer me back."
Tomoyo gave me a confused look. "How come?"
"I wasn't happy." He answered to Tomoyo's surprise. He was not really used to opening up to someone. However, Tomoyo was an attentive listener. He knew that she wanted details so before she could even ask, he wanted to tell her what she should know. "My family is a family of business. I believe you know the trend about having that kind of family. So instead of focusing myself in their expectations, I would rather move out of the house to know what I am really capable of."
"So how long will you stay here?"
"Until I graduate from college." Syaoran answered, imaging his set future. Yes, there are few years left, but he knew that for the next few years, his mother would try to involve him with different tasks and all. "Even though I like it better here, it is my duty since birth to take over the clan."
"Oh..." Tomoyo said softly and gave him a smile. "You are a very important person then."
"Perhaps."
"Syaoran!" another female voice called out.
The two looked at its direction and saw Sakura and Eriol coming towards them. The auburn haired girl smiled, particularly at Syaoran. Then Tomoyo and Eriol saw her grab him away from them happily.
"Looks like they are having fun eh?" Tomoyo said, not wanting to have an awkward silence with Eriol.
Eriol smiled, but still watching the other two. "Li is one of Sakura's happiness, but for him, Sakura was enough."
