I closed the door quietly so I didn't wake anyone. It's six in the morning and D'Andre just dropped me off. We had spent the whole afternoon talking and we lost track of time. We both also fell asleep in the couch and were on a lot of pain when we woke up at three this morning. I was going to take a cab back but he offered to drive me so I accepted.
I tried to sneak up the stairs but stopped in my tracks when I heard my mom.
"Skyler, where are you coming from at this hour?"
"I fell asleep at a friends house last night. I'm sorry I didn't call." I say as I turned back to her.
"Its alright, just call next time. I was so worried about you." she came towards me and rubbed my hair.
"I will mom." I said and hugged her.
"Hey, sis. Where've you been,?" I released mom to find Melanie coming down the stairs dressed in her usually over reveling clothes.
"Out." I replied.
"Really!? Your not one of the going out types. So where were you really?" she folded her arms and glared at me.
"I don't see where that is any of your business, Melanie."
"I'm just being a concerned sister. I would like to know who to blame if anything happens to my favorite sister "
I rolled my eyes at her before making my way to the kitchen.
I took a pack of Oreo out the cupboard before I sat down and indulged in its sweetness. My mom came in and made her way towards the fridge."Sweetie, dont you want something more filling for breakfast?"
"Yeah but I honestly cant be bothered right now."
"Your so lazy for someone who enjoys sport activities and cooking" Melanie said as she entered the kitchen.
I ignored her comment as she took a seat beside me.
"So, mom as I was saying, I don't really need anything now cause I already ate breakfast with my friend."
"Alright dear, would you like something Melanie?" Mom asked.
"Yeah, sure. Could you make me an omelette, toast with those bacon strip things you always do and one of your strawberry milkshakes."
I seriously had to do a double take to really find out if she really just said that to our mom. What does she take mom for? Her personal maid? And mom just stood their getting the stuff out to make Melanie's breakfast. While I continued to much on my Oreo, my phone beeped.
When I checked it I saw that it was a message from D'Andre. We had exchanged numbers this morning at breakfast when he declared that friends should have each others number. I opened it quickly, curious to see what he wanted to tell me considering that I just saw him not too long ago.
Hey, Friend.
I rollled my eyes at his message before replying.
Aren't you supposed to be working. I replied. I didn't have to wait as I immediately saw that he had read the message and is now replying.
I'm almost at work and the ride is a little boring so I just decided to check on my friend.
Oh, your such a great friend. I'm fine btw. Hbu?
Btw? Hbu?
I laughed at his obliviousness.
It's short for by the way and how about you. Omg, you must be really old not to know that. Lol. (Btw, omg means oh my God and lol means laugh out loud.)
I smiled as I sent my message. He didn't let me wait for long either as his reply was instant
I'm not old its just that I'm always messaging business associates so I always converse formally.
It's called texting not messaging, even though its a text message no one says messaging. Don't say that to anyone please. I don't want my friends embarrassing themselves in public.
I'll remember that next time, btw, wink wink.
Who types out the word wink anymore?
You know they have emojis for that right? You don't have to type wink you can just send an emoji.
Whats an emoji!?
I'm officially convinced that your not from this era. How do you not know whats an emoji!!?? They're the best thing ever.
I just don't.
Ok. I'll guess i'll just show you them and teach you some other stuff the next time we meet.
Ok. It's a date then.
I placed my phone down intending to end the conversation but my phone beeped again. I immediately opened the message.
Not like a date date. I mean like a regular meeting with a friend. An informal one.
Lol. I know D'Andre. I seen you soon then.
Yeah. You will.
Now, I honestly couldn't wait to see D'Andre again. I don't really have any male friends and its kinda nice to know that I have one now. Even if I wasn't looking for one it's not bad to have one.
"What are you smiling at?" Melanie asked and made the smile on my face drop immediately. But it didn't take too long to return when I realized that everything that Melanie asked mom to make for breakfast was sitting on mom's plate as she ate it while Melanie was eating toast and eggs.
