/Issac's Pov/

I felt the air shift and the room became warmer all of a sudden. I smelled the familiar smell and felt the tingle in my limbs. I didn't have to look up to know who had just walked into the room. It was Evelyn. This time, it had been shorter but still just as painful as the last. This time would be different, if I could actually ignore her this time and not get distracted again like the hundreds of times before, she could marry someone else who could give her a life, instead of- "Hi, is this seat taken?" Her sweet voice made me raise my head unconsciously and my shoulders began to ache, my wings wanting to surround her. She was so beautiful, I always thought it would be easier seeing her, but she always took my breath away decade after decade. I blinked and turned away, mumbling a "no". I had to protect her and stay away from her.

Class started and she took out her notebook and immediately started taking notes. She had always loved English and I couldn't help but admire her as she took down notes of what the teacher was saying and making little stars next to the important stuff. Watching her and seeing how she took her bottom lip in between her teeth when she was focusing, made my heart flutter. I had to keep myself under control this time. By the time the bell rang, I could feel my wings practically pushing at my skin and quickly ran out of the classroom before Evelyn could talk to me. Running away from her should have helped, but instead it made me hurt more, it was against every fragment in my body to turn away from her.

I continued walking to the cafeteria and sat down with Mal and Celeste. "Lover booyyy." I heard Lailah yell as I walked past Samuel's table. "Your precious little Evelyn is so sweet." "I wonder if she'll finally choose the right side." Samuel said, knowing how to push my buttons as he's been doing so for thousands of years. "Don't you dare touch her." I yelled, pushing him into the table. "Why not? At least I won't kill her." Samuel spat back and shoved me.

In Evelyn's first lifetime, right after The Fall, Samuel and her had been best friends, so much so that they could've been siblings. She was the only one who could call him Sam. When she died for the first time, everybody was heartbroken; Mal, Lailah, Celeste, Samuel, and most of all, me. This was my curse. Every 15 or so years, Evelyn would be reincarnated and brought into my life, if she fell in love with me, she would die, if she chose one of the demons or mortals, she could live, but I would be in agony forever. After too many reincarnations, a few hundred years ago, Samuel and Lailah sided with Lucifer and went to the dark side. They were tired of watching their best friend die over and over again, especially Samuel. Mal and Celeste had sided with God, although they were still banished from Heaven and Celeste had been in Evelyn's life for the past few years of this reincarnation. Something that hadn't changed were her nicknames for us. She's called Celeste, Ellie since her first life, which is one of the many things that never changes about her.

We stopped moving as Evelyn walked into the cafeteria and grabbed a tray of food before walking towards us. I walked away from her yet again and I felt her eyes on my back. "Hey, come sit next to me." I heard Chase, one of Samuel's demon friends, say too loudly and I turned to see his arm around her shoulder. My heart physically hurt, but I knew this was for the best.

/Evelyn's Pov/

I walked to History with Jax and saw Issac sitting in the back with Ellie. "Evelyn, come sit over here, I saved you a seat." she said, to which Issac whipped his head to the side to look at her questioningly. I smiled and sat down in front of her, meaning Jax ended up on the other side of Issac. "How were your first two classes? Sorry I didn't go to lunch, I was finishing decorating my room" she said as I turned in my chair. "They were good. Algebra was kind of boring, but Englsih was good. It's cool. I sat with Lailah and her friends." I said, smiling. "Do you like them?" she asked. "Yeah, they're fine." I said, still a little unsettled by Samuel. He still hadn't spoken a word to me, but I saw him talking to Issac when I walked into the dining hall, so maybe they're friends.  The bell rang and I turned back around and opened up the textbook and turned to the page on the board. "Today, we are going to watch a documentary on the Great Depression, everybody pay attention there will be a quiz tomorrow." "No there won't, he just says that because everybody always falls asleep." the girl sitting in front of me said, which was enough for Ellie to smile and put her notebook away. I slightly turned my head to see Issac looking at me. Now that the lights were off, I could swear that he was actually glowing, as well as Jax and Ellie actually. Issac was far more bright than them though, and he had a warm feeling to him, like an aura surrounding him. I heard the movie start and I turned back around in my chair. "Good night." Ellie said, putting her head down on top of her desk. The opening scene was of a filthy trash covered street and I felt myself leave my body, as if I was in the movie.

I looked around to see shops with closed signs and I felt something scratchy on my ankle, I yelped to see a rat. I kicked it off and kept walking, noticing a long line of people waiting for something. I felt my pockets and pulled out a ration booklet, except it was empty. My clothes were extremely starchy and worn out. I saw someone holding a loaf of bread and calling my name from the alley. I ran to them and recognized his face. He opened his mouth and the bell rang.

I blinked and I was suddenly back in the classroom. What just happened? I could practically still smell the stink of wherever I was. I had been there before, I was sure of it, but how could I? That was back in the 1930's. But most of all, why was Issac there?

/Issac's Pov/

I saw Ev focusing on the movie, I didn't see her blink once. I remembered being there with her like it had almost been yesterday.

/Flashback/

They were both starving, the only thing keeping her alive was their love, which in the end also killed her. He made sure her last night was special, he could feel the end coming, which still didn't make watching her die any easier. He stole a huge loaf of bread and cheese and they had a little feast and she laid against his chest in the dingy alleyway and leaned up to peck his lips and before he knew it she was gone.

I blinked and realized me and Evelyn were the only ones left. She looked out of it and quickly collected her things as she heard the warning bell ring. She couldn't possibly remember me, could she? She especially couldn't remember one of our past lives together.
