When I walked into the classroom, all the students went silent. Most of them had their phone out, on some type of social media. When I looked closely, their screens displayed a shocked figure sprawled out on the floor, her prosthetic leg showing.
Not saying a word, I silently took my seat. All the eyes were following my leg, trying to get a glimpse of what's underneath. Lucky for me, long pants, socks, and sneakers cover up any evidence.
"Is that the amputee?" someone in the back whispered to their friend. Soon after, more and more people whispered about the amputee sitting in the front of the class.
"Enough with your conversations!" Smith snapped, "Today, we have a new student."
Smith gestured to the boy next to me to come to the front of the room. He had black hair, a round face, and thick, black glasses. He was somewhat attractive, but not someone I'd go for.
"Another surprise?" a boy in the back of the room commented.
"Jackson, pack your stuff and head down to the office," the teacher said without hesitance.
Jackson Pierce swung his bag around his left shoulder and grumbled out the room. His size 13 shoe echoed with each angry stomp he took.
"With that out of the way, this is Peter Odinson. He will be in this homeroom for the rest of the year and I expect all of you to treat him accordingly. Unlike most of you," she trailed off.
When the teacher was done speaking, he sauntered back to his seat, catching a glimpse of eye contact.
