Two Worlds Collide

Chapter 2

As Lisa and walked into room S12, we scanned the room hoping therr were seats side by side, so we can sit next to each other. But thanks to Ethan there were 2 seats left, one in the middle and one in the very front. I look at Lisa and signed.

"I'll take front and you'll take back?"

She gave me a weak smile.

"Yeah, sure"

We went our separate ways and took my seat. I looked around and I saw Ethan, in the the back seat making out with schools slut Mindy, I quickly whip my head to the front and looked at Mrs. Galea, our history teacher.

"Now students, for your next assignment I'm going to pair you up" I lip-read

Mrs. Galea lookedat me and pointed.... OMG, I turned around; he gave me a sneer. I was partnered with Ethan, OMG no, no, no. Even though he pushed me to the ground and even though I have a crush on him, I can't work with him, his properly going to ditch this assignment and I bet his going to let me do all the work. Mrs. Galea started to hand out our assignment paper. When she handed my paper there was a note from her.

No arguments Miss Mitchell, you are paired up with Mr Morris and that's final

I looked at Lisa; she was a partner with a nerd called Luke. We looked at each and signed at the same time.

"Help"

As Ethan took his seat next to mine, I was so nervous. Even though I didn't know how we were going to communicate, before today we never spoke, when we walk pass each other, he never saw me, he didn't think he knew I exist, but I had always had a crush on him. He clicked his fingers in front of my face to get his attention. I snapped back into reality. He looked at me, as if I need an answer, I was too busy looking at him, that I didn't lip-read. He started speaking with frustration, and I lip-read.

"Hello? Taylah, just because you don't speak doesn't mean you can't do the work without communicating. Answer my question! What are we going to do for our project?" I lip-read

I sighed; he looked at me with anger as I took a piece of paper out of my folder and wrote in big letters.

T- I'M DEAF ETHAN! That's why I don't talk because I can't hear

Suddenly there was guilt on his face and anger, he quickly covered the guilt and got out paper and we started talking using paper.

E- Sorry I didn't know :/ I'm not that dumb Taylah; I do know what deafness is

T- Good, people wouldn't know because I don't have a hearing aid

E- So will just have to talk through paper....

T- Yeah

So we started to do our work, he wasn't paying attention at times, I'd had to click my fingers, to get him back to reality so many times I can't even count. It was really hard at first, but when he was back doing our work, we got by.

Once Mrs Galea gave me the signal, everyone started moving to their next class. I quickly packed up my stuff and met Lisa at the front door to my next class.
