The SUV's headlights blink through the setting sun. I peered out at the

sprawling campus of Briarfall where all my hopes seem to lie. To the

left of the tall wrought iron gates I spot glinting green paddocks with

dark lacquered stables/arena. My mom looks over at me and smiles

she knew how excited I was to come here. I looked at the back of the SUV where my new white ford trailer was. Inside my two competition mares , Spice and Dew(dewdrop) were probably having a hay feast. Mr. Lou , the equestrian director said that it was common for riders to have

two horses for events and that I was welcome to bring both of my horses.

A gate guard directed us over to the trailer parking where horses and riders were spilling over the place. I tried to calm my excitement and

looked over my outfit I had carefully chosen. A pair of american eagle skinny jeans topped off with my red satin Ralph Lauren top and my

Steve Madden black leather riding boots. My brown-blondish hair stood in waves that were pinned out of my face. "Come on Brianna" my Mom called to me patiently as I slid out the door and around to the trailer. My

mom took hold of Spice and I grabbed dewdrop . Together we walked

to Stable 1 where people seemed less stressed. I remembered how

one barn held bigger box stalls than others and how less horses were housed here. The people I passed had shocked looks on like they were

surprised I was coming. Waving to each one I caught up to my mom

who had Spice all settled in a HUGE stall where her tack trunk sat in front. A golden plaque with Spice's show name Pumpkin Spice and below that read owned by Brianna Wilson. My mom snapped a picture of that to send to my dad who was in the military overseas. I settled Dewdrop into an identical stall and headed back to the SUV to get my

luggage.

I paused outside the entrance to my dorm, The Hienzken, some German fancy name I didn't understand. A cute boy was sitting on the steps talking on a Blackberry, when he saw me he gave me those hypnotic stares you see a couple make on MTV. Turning away, I headed up the elevator to floor 3 where a dorm advisor waited for me. "You will be in

suite 3b rooming with Alexandra Garrison " She said. Yes! I thought

Alex or Lexi as she liked to be called , was my best friend since third

grade. She was always the talented artist who later turned to horses.

The dorm monitor , whose name was Leanne led me to 3b which had the whiteboard reading "Home To Horse Lovers" . Motioning me in, Leanne cracked open the door to reveal a posh living room with a kitchenette. Two bedrooms left the living rooms on opposite sides , my mouth hung open in shock from this. The small kitchen table was dwarfed with information packets and schedules. "Over here, girl!" came Lexi's voice from one of the rooms. Squealing I threw the door open to see a girl with straight black hair and blue eyes. Lexi wore a black mini skirt with a short sleeve white blouse and black satin ballet flats. "You're here" she said running over to me and hugging me. "I missed you" We both said at the same time squealing .

After tearful goodbyes and dorm setups, me and Lexi headed to the cafeteria where a speacil dinner was being served to all the new students. More people wanted to stop by me and say hello, but luckily Lexi hurried me along and we made it in time. After each picking out our respected meals, both of us scanned the cafeteria for good seats. Each table held their respective cliques: jocks, nerds, riders, actors, and then artists and writers.People glanced at us as to see where we chose to sit. Lexi turned me towards the table where the artists sat, somehow we gained permission to sit with them. A blond girl about my age cleared away two spots at the sketchbook and sandwich covered table, then motioned us to sit. The blond introduced herself as Christina Hula and started telling us about the foundations of the art club. While she talked, I scanned her from head to toe. She wore paint splattered jean shorts with a yellow cotton tee and those cute brown sandals from Forever 21. Her hair was the color of  dark cherry red that lay in loose waves that fell across her back.
Once I began to feel more comfortable  with the artists I asked Christina whether she had any involvement with the riding program here.  "Yeah I have a Black Standardbred named Roxie." She said smiling wide and talking with her hands excitedly. We continued to talk about our love of horses until we realized most of the group had cleared out from the now mostly empty cafeteria. "Well I guess I will see you tomorrow then at the tryout?" She questioned while both me and Lexi nodded eagerly.

*Next Day*

The sunlight shone through the curtains landing its warm rays across my bedspread. Groaning, I sat up amidst a tangle of silk sheets and a duvet cover only to fall back in bed five seconds later. When I realized that today was the day of tryouts, I shot out  of bed and nearly ran to my closet flinging open the walnut doors. I picked out a pair of fawn colored breeches, a breezy white ruffled shirt, black leather riding boots and my navy blue showcoat/velvet covered helmet. Once I was dressed I braided my hair in an elaborate French braid then twisting it up into an elegant looking bun: my signature hairstyle for events. I swiped on some make up and then threw on sweats over my showclothes to keep them neat while grabbing my backpack and walking out to the lounge. Crossing our dorm, I reached Lexi's door and knocked, only to be met with a very eager girl totally dressed and ready. "Wow I thought I would be the one to splash water on you,but I see the princess has awakened from her slumber." I chuckled slightly. "Shut up." Lexi growled playfully rollig her eyes. Sighing we both walked out into the dimly lit hallway before closing the door firmly behind us.
