I woke to the smell of burning. My eyes slowly opened to reveal bright flames licking at my bedroom floor and walls. The pictures I had of my family and Jack are all gone. I screamed as the flames advanced towards my bed. Smoke filled the air, and I could slowly feel myself being pulled back into the grasps of slumber.

No. I had to stay awake. I had to find mom and dad. Where was Ashlynn? I turned my head to where her bed should be, right next to mine. I gasped, the whole thing was up in flames.

"Ashlynn!" I yelled. She had to be somewhere. My twin sister couldn't be in those flames. I jumped off of my bed and ran through the door, not caring if the bright flames attached themselves to my clothing.

"Ashlynn! Mom! Dad! Where are you?" I screamed into the hallway. No answer. My small feet carried me as fast as they could to my parent's room, just down the hall. The room was filled with flames. Anyone in there would have been burnt to a crisp if they hadn't gotten out.

Figuring my family was outside, I sprinted downstairs and out of the house, but there was no one there. I yelled for my family once more, but yet again I was only met with the cracklings of flames that destroyed everything I had ever known. I clenched my fists in defiance. No, they couldn't be dead. I wouldn't believe it until I saw their bodies.

Suddenly, I heard wood snap, and the entire house came crashing down. Bits of fire and furniture were thrown from the broken windows, but I just stood there. I watched as my entire life went up in flames.

Next to me, something shiny caught my eye. It was my mother's necklace. Instead of getting her a wedding ring when they got married, my father had gotten her a necklace. Mom and dad were meisters, so a ring would fall off too easily during battle. I gripped the delicate chain with my dirt caked fingers and looked at the shining pendant. Diamonds formed the shape of a small leaf. I never knew why daddy would pick a leaf, but it must have meant something to their love.

I quickly put the necklace around my neck and ran into the woods behind our house, the nearest neighbors being almost a mile away.
