I woke up before the sun rose.
If I didn't find any caffeine within the next hour, people would die.
Seeing no way for me to fall back asleep, I slowly slid my body out of my warm bed. I changed out of the long sleeved shirt and sweet pants I slept in and put on my usual black jeans, black tank top, and a black hoodie with my converse. I brushed my waist length red hair and left it down. I couldn't stand having my hair in a ponytail. Not only did it show my scars, but I was a perfectionist and I would be fixing it all day.
Quickly closing the door behind me, I attempted to remember which hallway would lead me out of the dorm. Obviously, I failed. Finding myself right back where I started, I sat back against my door, desperately needing to find a source of caffeine. About ten minutes went by, and the door next to me opened. Kid stepped out and noticed me sitting on the floor.
"What the hell are you doing?" he asked me.
"Riding a fucking elephant, what do you think?" I retorted with a glare.
"Someone's in need of coffee," he observed. He held a pale hand out to me, but I ignored it. I decided that following him was my best bet out of here, so I got up.
"Where to, idiot?" I asked, hoping he would take a hint and tell me where to find the nearest coffee shop. He led the way out of the dorm and down a few streets before stopping at a coffee shop.
"You don't have to be so rude, you know," he told me while opening the door for me.
"Yes I do, idiot," I growled before stepping into the coffee shop.

I was in class, but I totally wasn't paying attention. Jack couldn't be in the same class as me, since he was younger. It was weird not seeing him every day when I woke up. He usually jumped on my bed to wake me up just like a little kid, even though he was a whole foot and about 50 pounds bigger than me.
I listened to the teacher drone on about some nonsense. Something about dissecting, I think. I don't think I even knew his name, yet. The girl next to me was taking notes diligently, while the boy next to her was fast asleep. The girl next to me looked like a little kid. With her pig tails, she looked about 12 years old. Maybe she was one of those super smart kids who skipped like 5 years in school. She probably was, it the way she was taking notes.
Kid sat in front of me, and two almost identical looking girls sat on either side of him. one was making a giraffe out of her assignment, and the other was painting her nails some obscenely bright color that made me want to throw up. I already didn't like anyone sitting around me. Out of nowhere, the bell rang to signal the end of class. The little girl next to me stood up and turned to me. Damn, of course she just had to be taller than me too.
"Hi there! I'm Maka, and this is my partner Soul. It's nice to meet you!" she said brightly. God, I think I'm going to throw up, her cheeriness was going to choke me.
"Amelia," I growled, and pushed past her to get to my dorm. I didn't want anything to do with these people. Unfortunately, Maka followed behind me with Soul, Kid, and those two bimbos that were sitting next to him. They looked similar, so they were probably sisters.
Kid walked up and whispered in my ear, "I meant what I said earlier. You don't have to be so rude."
He then waved the two girls over that I didn't know and introduced them as Liz and Patty. The names suited them, so cheery. Kid picked that precise moment to start crying over how something wasn't the same as the other, so I took that chance to slip away while I still could.
Back in my room, I opened one of the drawers in my nightstand. A manila file stared back at me, and I slipped it out of the wooden drawer. Inside were papers. Papers about me, my sister, my mother and father. I had gotten a job a few years back and hired a private investigator to find out what happened on that night 6 years ago. There was only one part of the file that I haven't dared open. there was a small folder that read 'confidential' in large black letters.
My fingers started shaking. I needed to know what was in this folder. I tore at the seal holding the folder together. The papers looked like some kind of report. I skimmed the pages. Finally I came to a paper that had a picture of me on it.
Name: Kaira, last name unknown
That's not right. My name is Amelia Kaeman, not Kaira.
Siblings: twin sister: Katara, status unknown
Maybe this person was confused with me because they also have a twin sister?
Parents: father: unknown, mother: unknown, foster father: David Kaeman, deceased, foster mother: Jennifer Kaeman, deceased
That can't be right. I've lived with mom and dad for as long as I can remember. I look just like them.
Background: unknown until age of five. Kaira and Katara appeared at the doorstep of an orphanage outside Death City and were adopted by David and Jennifer Kaeman six months later, and changed their names to conceal their identity. The Kaemans seemed to know where the girls came from, but offered no information. Kaira and Katara are currently known as Amelia and Aslynn Kaeman.
This couldn't be true. But, it also could. I can't remember anything before I was six, but I thought that was just because I was so young. Maybe mom and dad aren't my mom and dad. I keep thinking back to where it said siblings. What does it mean by status unknown? Could Aslynn still be alive?
I skimmed down the page a little more.
Other information: unstable, seems to have issues with balancing magic and meister abilities
What? Magic? As far as I'm concerned, I'm a normal human. I'm a meister. I don't have any magic. Unless one of my real parents was a witch, but that can't be right. Meisters and witches can't have children.
I decided to put away the file. I would deal with it in the morning. I only knew one thing: I couldn't tell anyone, not even Jack.
