I laughed and smirked. “Keep an eye on us?” I said. “You’re talking like Chris and I are little kids!” I exclaimed. “Devin I know you two, if it’s to protect people you care about, you both have a death wish the size of Russia.” Megan said. She seemed so serious, which was rather unusual to me. She was normally all for engaging in occasionally life threatening shenanigans, but this time she didn’t seem to want to have any of it. “Fine, fine, we’ll be careful.” Chris said with a sigh. Chris normally wasn’t as reckless as I was but, he had his days. Today didn’t seem to be one of them. Alyxander snapped his fingers and a large ugly golden chair appeared and floated in midair a couple feet off the ground. He sat in the chair and braced himself. “Alright you three, get moving already.” Alyxander ordered. The three of us began to sprint to the town which we lived just outside of. A few minutes later we arrived at the gates of the town which appeared to be open. The three of us looked at the gate cautiously and then to each other. “Is everybody ready?” Chris asked. Megan and I nodded. I smirked before we entered the town. Megan looked at me curiously before the three of us began to run into town towards all the commotion. We seemed to arrive just in time, as half of the guards were on the floor knocked out or dead. There seemed to be about one hundred goblins which was more than enough to overrun urkuuts seeing as it was a small and peaceful town. I unsheathed my sword and looked at my friends. “Let’s get this party started, shall we?” I said. Chris unsheathed his sword as well and Megan had her freezing magik at the ready. “Let’s do it just like we practiced, Megan supports us from a distance with her ranged attacks while we go in close and hit em’ hard.” Chris said. Megan kept her distance and began firing off balls of energy that instantly froze the goblins on contact. Goblins were about four feet tall, scrawny with pale green skin, slightly pointed ears and had red eyes and razor sharp teeth. To top it all off they had minor pyromancer abilities. They could throw fireballs the size of softballs and breathe a cone of flames about two feet wide with a distance of one in front of them. They were all armed with curved swords and daggers which seemed to be a bit beat up. Urkuuts had a decent forge so they must have been looking for some spare gold and shiny new blades. Chris and I ran into the crowd of goblins and started to hack and slash away at the crowd. After taking down about twenty goblins each (fourty in total, which was nearly half) Chris and I began to use magik to enhance our physical abilities. We had a ridiculous amount of stamina for being humans and we were strong enough to go toe to toe with a few orcs (orcs are a large and war like people that usually tend to be about seven feet tall and stronger than humans by tenfold, although the foot soldiers aren’t too bright. They resemble goblins, but are much larger and quite frankly, scarier). The extra strength allowed me to swing my sword around as if it were a feather, and a sword that’s about half my size being swung around that easily? That’s deadly. (Remember, I use a one handed long sword so…. I’m essentially putting anime logic to good use.) The goblins were no match for our combination. Chris and I over powered them by quite a bit since goblins are about useless one on one, but in groups were really effective. We put them to shame and it took all of about ten or fifteen minutes for us to finish them off. After the battle, we were drenched in blood and covered in dirt. I looked around to see how many guards were left and there seemed to be about the same number as there was when we arrived on the scene. I looked around and about a fourth of the goblin forces frozen. Megan gave us a dazzling smile and seemed to be proud of her work. After only a year of training, we’ve come very far and I think we were all proud of each other at times, especially when Alyxander praised us. We felt accomplished and a bit badass. Chris asked for a very large sack from one of the local weapon forgers. When Chris walked out with the bag Megan and I looked at him curiously. “Whatcha got there?” Megan asked. “I got me a sssack!” Chris said. He seemed to drag out the word sack on purpose. Less than a moment later Megan and I caught on to the innuendo and laughed. Chris began to pick up the goblin weapons and toss them in his sack. “Okay, now I have to know… What the hell are you doing?” I asked Chris. “Cleaning up part of our mess and getting extra materials for weapon forging.” Chris said. “Uh… May I ask why?” Megan asked. Chris nodded and smiled. “The blacksmith said he’d give me a couple hundred gold if I collected all this stuff for him!” Chris explained joyfully. Megan and Alyxander began to treat the wounded as Chris did clean up duty. It seemed I got to clean the bodies. I always hated it when they stuck me with this duty. I didn’t want to clean up so many corpses with my hands though, so I tried my hand at using magik to do it for me. One by one I used a bit of dark magik to reanimate the bodies so they could walk themselves out of town to be buried. Who knows, if I could keep the spell going long enough, they may even dig their own grave! That would be amazing seeing as I’m lazy and don’t like to deal with such messiness. The town’s people got scared as they saw me lead one hundred goblin-zombies out of the front gates. Once they realized the situation they seemed to be rather disgusted that I’d do such a thing. I knew most of the people that lived in urkuuts so they all knew I could get lazy with this sort of job and always resort to magik to do it for me. As soon as we were out of the gates and around a hundred feet away from the gates I ordered the mob to stay still so I could go check on Alyxander and my friends. When I walked back through the gates, Alyxander, Chris and Megan all stood staring at me mouths agape. “How the hell did you just do that?” Chris asked with a mixture of horror and fascination. “There’s a reason we don’t use black magik you know!” Alyxander scolded. “Black magik?” Megan asked. “Yes it’s a sort of magik that’s linked to death, destruction, and darkness.” Alyxander explained.

“Well they wouldn’t be wrong; it wasn’t the most difficult of tasks.” I said. “Don’t act so smug, boy; that is dangerous magik you just experimented with and I don’t want to see you use any more of it, most people go insane if they use too much black magik!” Alyxander said. I sat there and thought for a moment only to realize, I wasn’t exactly sure how I did what I just did. In my thoughts, I hoped that the goblin-zombies buried themselves so I wouldn’t have to think about this anymore. In any case, a few small fires were starting up from the remnants of the goblins raid. They must have thrown fireballs at houses or something. Putting out magik fires wasn’t as easy as putting out natural ones. I realized that I didn’t need my battle gear anymore and asked for Alyxander to clean it for me with his powers. He shrugged and did as I requested. When the gear was all clean, I dissipated the spell that had summoned it and the gear disappeared in a flash of red light. I knew that it was back home under my bed in a storage case. Now back in my casual clothes, I sent a light blast of snow to the fires and put them out. After awhile the snow melted naturally. I was rather tense after this fight since Chris and I had to take on so many enemies at once. It was all worth it though, to save my favorite small town. Other than the fact that there was a small scale battle going on only an hour before, it was a beautiful, warm and sunny spring day. I was uncomfortably hot from all the fighting so I went to cool off and calm my nerves in the local tavern. I walked in and there were no customers except for myself at the moment. It seemed all the usual people who liked to hang around here were hiding in their homes or elsewhere because of the attack. I washed the dirt and blood from my face and took a deep breath. I went to greet Ravnik, the peaceful goblin owner of this small cozy little tavern but I couldn’t seem to find him. After about ten minutes of searching for my friend, it turned out he was just behind the bar taking inventory but I couldn’t see him due to his lack of height. This made me chuckle before I said anything. “Hello old friend! When you’re done there do you think you could serve me a mug of beer? Nothing too strong, just something to cool me off and calm my nerves.” I said to Ravnik. He looked up at me with his large red eyes and smiled. Although his eyes were the color of blood, he was anything but menacing. He always seemed to have a joyful look to him and enjoyed serving his customers. It made me wish all goblins were this civil. “Yes, yes, I’ll only be a moment, your drinks on the house for helping out the town!” Ravnik said in his gravelly voice. I sat in a stool and began to wonder where he got all of his booze and products and came to the conclusion that it probably came from a larger city that was nearby like Graylindale. After sitting patiently for awhile I finally decided to help Ravnik with his work and served myself a mug of beer instead of waiting for him to do it. He trusted me well enough seeing as I worked here over the summer before my training got serious. Through that entire summer, I’d learned a lot about Ravnik and his life, so even though we haven’t known each other long, we still refer to one another as old friends. We sat and talked awhile about the raid and Ravnik came to the conclusion it was his old horde looking to screw around and have a good time and maybe get some extra supplies out of it. Goblin hordes range from four thousand to eight thousand so that was hardly anything in comparison to what could have been. There are only a few hordes but all the hordes are spread out all over the continent in which we lived. We probably just took out maybe a fourth of the local group. My friends joined me after an hour or two and all sat down to have a drink. After we were all cooled off and ready to get back to Alyxanders mansion we said our goodbyes to Ravnik and cleaned out our mugs for him. He was grateful for that. We were his favorite customers because we always cleaned up after ourselves and when we served ourselves we only took what we paid for. Alyxander decided that he remembered how to teleport so we were all flashed back to the mansion in an instant. “It would have been better if you remembered how to do that before we had to run all the way to urkuuts.” I said to Alyxander. “Well, I haven’t used it in years so I forgot how to until now; I didn’t travel a lot before you kids were around.” Alyxander explained. Suddenly Alyxander looked rather alert. “Oh what a bothersome child…” he said suddenly. Alyxander said things that seemed a bit random when he sensed things but this time I figured who it was right away. “Hey Devin! Come on out and plaaaay!” A voice said from oustside the mansion. “Or Chris! I don’t care, I could take both of you if I felt like it!” The voice continued to taunt. Chris and I balled up our fists. “C’mon Chris, let’s go kick his ass.” I said. Chris nodded in silence. “If you guys keep feeding into it when he taunts you, he’ll just keep coming back; you know he’s strong enough to win against you both at the same time, just ignore him!” Megan pleaded. There was nobody in the world that annoyed me more than him. Nobody except Ryden made me want to fight as much as I did.
