"It's me and you in this."
Angela stared. She was in the dimly lit kitchen, and she could see into the backyard. Her best friend literally running around the garden as if she was a child having a sugar rush, doing all sorts such as cartwheels and laughing. As the man who was literally barrelling his van into traffic earlier was smiling at her.
She didn't even know that same man even had the ability to smile. He was gazing at her as if he was in some sort of trance. The two were practically in their own world as if eight hours prior to arriving to Tamara's grandmother's home, they weren't getting shot at and chased down the high street.
Noticing their weird little moment was over, she quickly went back to washing the dishes and averted her eyes back to the soapy warm water and plates.
Tamara followed in after Frank, she was clearly still breathless but she'd looked happier. Then she realised Angela seemed to be glaring at her and Frank, she cleared her throat.
"Hey Angela."
Silence.
Frank carried on walking and left the room, but now it was only Tamara and Angela alone in the kitchen. And atmosphere was quite tense. After a moment, Angela spoke up.
"You seemed to be having fun."
"Yeah I just- Well, Frank taught me some self defence. Just some basic steps."
"That seems cool. You're just messing around with a random man while your friend is currently recovering from a gun shot."
Tamara's face fell. Angela's voice seemed slightly bitter.
"Where's this coming from?"
"Are you being serious? We're in a rotting house from the fifties, our parents have no clue where we are, Pam has been SHOT and you're acting like this is all a damn joke!"
That statement alone stung. It was worse than all of the events that had happened to her.
"What do you want me to do? Huh? I didn't mean for anyone to get involved."
"You say that but regardless it happened. Now we're at risk and so are your family. Congrats." She said, throwing the gloves in the sink, and storming off.
Tamara stared at her. It felt like a slap in the face, but a wake up call, if anything.
The house was silent as midnight approached. Sounds of clock ticking as Tamara tried to sleep on the couch. She hadn't spoke to Angela after that, but she knew she was right. All her friends and family were currently at risk, and she hadn't been taking it seriously.
Her mouth went dry, as the realisation sunk in.
She assumed Frank was going to take a moment for himself. Questioning him wasn't worth it. It was almost like talking to a brick wall.
